18. The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) is a technically based organization consisting of twelve marine classification
societies. Belong to IACS the twelves most reliable ranking companies in the world.
The societies members are BV, RINA, DNV, ABS, NK, RS, PRS, CRS, CCS, KR,IR.
IACS provides a forum within which the member societies can discuss, research and adopt technical criteria that enhance maritime safety.
More than 90% of the world's cargo carrying ships’ tonnage is covered by the classification standards set by the twelve member societies of IACS.
Because of that all the societies members have an agreement of mutual recognition.
