Dominic studied medicine at Emmanuel College Cambridge University. He was awarded the Hallet prize and medal from the Royal College of Surgeons of England for the top mark in the FRCS examination. He was appointed to the Specialist Registrar training programme in trauma and orthopaedic surgery based at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham and passed the FRCS Trauma and Orthopaedics fellowship in 2005. Whilst studying in Birmingham he developed his interest in hand and peripheral nerve surgery.
