Heavy monsoon rains caused major rivers in Bangladesh to burst their banks, displacing thousands in Satkhira district. Over 826,000 people from 195,000 families were affected, with 110,000 marooned and 27,966 families taking shelter. Crops and infrastructure like roads, schools and embankments were damaged. Rishilpi Development Project organized emergency responses like medical camps, latrines at shelters, and support for vulnerable people and volunteers working to reduce flooding. The situation was improving but full recovery was expected to take 2-3 weeks.

- 2. Introduction Bangladesh is situated in the south Asian sub-continent. Because of its unique geographical location and topography, it is one of the most flood-prone countries in the world. Approximately 20 to 25% of Bangladesh’s territory is inundated during the monsoon season. Such flooding provides fertile agricultural land and the floodplains in the country are densely populated and intensely utilized.
