2. Summery and genre
• This is a radio drama following the adventures of George and his
Spanish cousin Jorge as they travel through the Spanish country
side in search of the jewels of legend rumored to posses magical
powers of unimaginable power.
• The genre of this drama will be adventure comedy. As George and
his cousin venture through the Spanish country side in search of the
jewels despite George's lack of Spanish speaking.
3. Target Audience
The core audience for Las Joyas are older adults aged 30-70 as the
narrative is similar to one such as 'The famous Five' Which they
would have grown up reading; making it easier for the audience to
relate to the main characters.
The secondary audience will be Spanish speakers listening to the
drama; as although the drama will understandable and enjoyable to
non Spanish speakers because Jorge is used to translate for George,
the translation isn't always exact (adding an extra layer of humour to
those who understand Spanish).
4. Character profiles and Casting
• George is the main character in Las Joyas. He is British, and in search of
the legendary jewels spoke about in his grandfather's bedtime stories.
He's a very mischievous character, who can come across as too upfront at
times and even self-absorbed from time to time. He often makes decisions
without his cousin Jorge's opinion, and these calls tend to render the
cousins in trouble. George can also be naïve, especially when taking his
cousins translations as 100% accurate. A casting idea would be Colin Firth,
as he is an experienced British actor with a posh accent.
• Jorge is George's Spanish cousin. He was approached by George and
convinced into coming on a trip to find Las Joyas. Jorge is a level headed
character who likes to take time to think through situations. He is very
respectful and wise, however he still is able to find pleasure in teasing his
cousin through purposefully botched translations and mocking him in
Spanish. A casting idea for Jorge would be Antonio Banderas, as he is a
well know actor across the world. He also speaks fluent English and
Spanish, making him able to speak Jorges lines, which often switch
between the two languages when translating for George.
