Peru support letter
1. Dear Sir/Madam,
My name is Diana Castillo and I recently graduated from nursing
school at UNC-Greensboro. I have been offered an amazing
opportunity to serve in Cusco, Peru for one year with an organization
called Campus Outreach International (COIN), whose mission is to
serve locals through faith-based outreach.
If you’ve watched the news lately, you’ve seen reports on poverty,
depression, racial inequality, economic disparity, lack of healthcare and others. Many people are in
need not only in our nation, but globally as well, and this is a need that I deeply feel. Sometimes I
imagine a world where there is no pain, no suffering, no sickness, no hate, no evil. In other words, I
imagine heaven. I think it’s impossible to achieve this abundance of life on earth. But I have seen how
faith-based outreach not only addresses these issues, but also impacts individual people, giving them
hope and helping them find peace in something far greater than themselves.
Campus Outreach (CO) is a collaborative network of
inter-denominational ministries targeting college campuses
in the United States and throughout the world. During my
freshman year of college I struggled to find identity and
security and was significantly impacted by CO and
individuals who were committed not only to my physical
and educational wellbeing, but also spiritual wellbeing.
Through this ministry, I saw many young men and women
break free from addiction, abusive relationships, suicide, and
meaninglessness of their lives as they came face to face with
the gospel message--a message that deals with people who
are born with inherent value, purpose and a beautiful
capacity for identity, being rescued from hopelessness and experiencing new life. This message laid a
foundation for our nation and has even fueled significant movements such as the Civil Rights
Movement, and I see it a necessary one to share with people all over the world.
Healthcare is a major need around the world, but particularly in Cusco, where more than half of the
population lives in poverty. One of COIN’s outreach mediums is through our non-profit clinic, La
Fuente Centro de Salud Integral . Here we provide services in Women’s Health, Pediatrics, Psychiatry,
Dentistry and many others for the community at little to no cost and also offer university healthcare
students a safe place to practice alongside trained professionals. I will be serving in the clinic as a nurse
and assisting local nursing students as they learn necessary skills for serving their communities.
Another one of our outreach mediums is through faith-based outreach at the Universidad Nacional de
San Antonio Abad del Cusco. Here I will be focusing on building mentoring relationships with young
women that will help develop faith and character for these future community leaders.
In order to serve full-time for a year, I am raising $45,000 to help support our non-profit clinic as well
as cover housing, food, medical insurance, flights, and other necessary expenses. I would love for you
to be a significant part of this and consider partnering with me financially and also in prayer. I believe
that this experience will enrich the community in Cusco, our team as we serve, and you as supporters
sharing in our experience.
Thank you for your consideration,
Diana Castillo
