As Director of Allied Health and Emergency Medical Programs my responsibilities have been
to oversee all Allied Health programs as well as Emergency Medical programs. My duties
have included assuring that we are staffed with qualified instructors to meet the needs of
our students, to educate the community about the programs that we offer here, provide
testing when needed for admittance to our programs, oversee staff and making sure that
they are properly credentialed and made aware of any changes made on the state level with
regards to skills or program change, manage the budget and order needed stock for each
program, maintaining records for each of our program according to the state mandates ie.
DHHSR and NC COAEMPS, assuring that each instructor is getting paid for the amount of
hours in teaching, going to regional meetings for both areas and bringing back to staff the
changes or implementing new processes brought to the table.
As Interim Coordinator of NA1 students my responsibilities included scheduling classes,
ordering supplies for each semester, making sure all information about each student is in file
folders and correct according to the DHSR standards, making sure we have enough
educational handouts for each student, managing and checking time sheets for each
instructor ensuring correct information on each time sheet, assisting instructors in classroom
when needed, handling disciplinary problems with instructors as they arise, reporting
pertinent information to the Dean of Workforce as needed, scheduling Tabe test and
maintaining records of the grades and sending an updated list to registration for students to
register for classes immediately after each Tabe, maintaining our program per DHSR
standards, following up with other departments when needed ie. Office of Disability etc.,
2. As DON my responsibilities were to report directly to Administrator as needed, maintain a
survey ready building per DHSR standards, report any resident situations to Administrator or
BON as needed, ensure that residents were receiving competent care, maintaining records
of meetings such as wound rounds, falls and incident reports and ensuring proper follow-up,
act in Administrator’s absence, maintained proper staffing for the building and working a
cart when necessary, reporting to BON with disciplinary actions as necessary within the time
limit directed for nursing staff, follow-up with resident complaints and ensuring a proper
resolution to the complaints, take care or disciplinary actions per facility protocol, hire new
staff and assist in the hiring process of other administrative staff for the building,
As ADON my responsibilities were to report to the DON and also to act in her absence, hire
and orient new staff and maintain yearly education of staff per DHSR standards, offer
continuing education on a monthly basis, maintain nursing staff with regards to staffing,
performance, and proper follow-up with physicians etc and report to the DON, maintain
surveillance of charting for proper charting, participate in behavior meetings for residents, in
nutritional meetings, monthly assessments of residents, maintain weight records and re-
weights of residents, maintain proper staffing for the building and work cart as necessary,
monthly call for any issues in the building during evenings and nights and respond promptly
as needed.
• Have been a staff educator for most of my career as a BCLS instructor, preceptor of
new hires, served on several committees such as Retention and Recruitment,
Diabetic and Stroke committees in hospitals I worked. I also wrote the orientation
manuals for new nurses and aides at Transylvania Hospital and used them while
educating them on hospital policies and procedures for the hospital.
