2. INTRODUCTION
Driver fatigue according to the NHTSA, annually causes
100,000 crashes
1500 fatalities
71,000 injuries
Which cause annual cost of $12.5 billion.
A majority of the road accidents observed were
preceded by eye closures of one half second to as long
as 2 to 3 seconds.
A normal person blink lasts .2 to .3 second.
4. In order to overcome disadvantages of existing methods
IBM (International Business Management Corporation)
introduces a new sleep prevention technology device
“ARTIFICIAL
PASSENGER”.
5. RESIDENCE......
• This is an artificial intelligence based
companion.
• Resident in software and chips embedded
in the automobile dashboard.
6. Technology……….
•
Artificial intelligence (AI) is the intelligence of machines and the
branch of computer science that aims to create it. "the study and
design of intelligent agents" where an intelligent agent is a system
that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its
chances of success .
8. AUTOMATIC SPEECH RECOGNITION
(ASR)
• “Speaker independent”
• Decodes voice signals of the driver.
• Decoded voice signals will output to
Natural Language processor.
9. NATURAL LANGUAGE PROCESSOR
(NLR)
•Processes decoded signals provided by ASR.
•Identifies related meanings from the contents
of the decoded messages.
•Produces variant of responses
•This output will go to Driver Analyzer as an
input.
10. DRIVER ANALYZER
• Receives textual data and voice data from
NLP .
• Measures time of response using a clock .
• This time responses, concludes about driver’s
alertness.
• It will output to the Conversational Planner.
11. CONVERSATIONAL PLANNER
(CP)
• Heart of the system.
• CP holds the profile of the driver.
• Instruct the language generator to
produce response.
• If the driver is in perfect condition CP
instructs language processor to continue
conversation otherwise it is instructed to
change the conversation (un expected
joke).
12. ALARM……
• If the CP receives information that the
driver is about to fall asleep an alarm
system is activated.
MICROPHONE….
• It picks the words and separate it using
speech recognition software.
13. CAMERA……
• This will track the lip movements of the
driver.
• It is used for the improvement for the
accuracy of speech recognition.
15. APPLICATIONS
•Prevent driver from falling asleep during long
trips.
•Open and close the window of a car
automatically and also answer a call for you.
•Artificial Passenger Device is also used for
Entertainment
•If the driver gets a heart attack or he is drunk it
will send signals to vehicles nearby about this so
driver there become alert.
16. This system can be used to other situations
where the individuals must stay alert.
Security Guards
Operators at nuclear plants
Operators at manufacturing facilities
Pilots of airplanes
17. CONCLUSION…….
Successful implementation of Artificial
Passenger would allow use of various
services in cars (like reading email,
navigation, downloading music titles ,voice
games etc.) without compromising a driver
safety.
18.
19. FUTURE APPLICATIONS…
Will
provide you with a “shortest time” routing
based on road conditions changing because of
weather and traffic ,remote diagnostics of your car
and cars on you route, destination requirements and
nearby incentives (“e-coupons for restaurants along
your way).
