3. CLASSICATION OF COLOURS
DEFINITION OF COLOUR
It is a property possesed by an object producing
different sensations on the eye as a result of the way it
reflects or emits light.
COLOUR CLASSIFICATION
• Primary colours
• Secondary colours
• Tertiary colours
4. • PRIMARY COLOURS
Red
Blue
Yellow
These colours are pure colours which are beyond
production by mixing other colours.
Since we can arrive at any colour by mixing these three
in different proportions, these are rightly indentified
as primary colour.
5. • SECONDARY COLOURS
If two primary colours are mixed in equal parts, secondary colours
are obtained.
Blue + red = violet
Blue + yellow = green
Red + yellow = orange
6. • TERTIARY COLOURS.
Tertiary colours are intermediate colours made out of secondary and
colours.A tertiary colour is a colour made by mixing one primary colour with
one secondary colour,in a given colour space such as RGB
or RYB.
7. HOW ARE RAINBOWS FORMED?
Rainbow is a natural phenomenon caused by the refraction and
reflection of light in droplet of water, which results in the
appearance of a spectrum of light in the sky.
the property possessed by an object of producing different
sensations on the eye as a result of the way it reflects or
emits light.
8. Rainbows appear in the form of a multicolour bow.The rainbow
appear on the side of the sky that is directly opposite the sun.
COLOURS OF RAINBOW
The colour in a rainbow are those found in the colour spectrum of
white light as it divides. There are seven main colour that we see in
the rainbow.
RED ORANGE YELLOW GREEN BLUE INDIGO VIOLET
9. MECHANISM OF RAINBOW FORMATION
• Sunlight hitting a raindrop in the atmosphere is refracted on the
surface of the raindrop and enters the droplet.
• Once refraction occurs, light breaks up into seven colours inside
the raindrop, it is then reflected to other side of the raindrop
travelling inside it.
10. • When light in the raindrop refracts, the spectrum form to make
the seven colours of rainbow appear.
• During reflection ,angle of reflection is equal to angle of
incidence, this means the reflected light travels along a set path
and maintains the difference of refracted angle. A rainbow is a
bunch of raindrops hanging in atmosphere that divide the
sunlight into seven colours, like a prism.
