Not long ago, a reader sent me an email saying that, with all of the e-cigarette
reviews I’ve written and all of the hardware available to me, it must be difficult to
choose a best e-cigarette. He wanted to know what my personal vape setup is. I’ll

Lavatube has the same specifications and costs half as much. Specifications aren’t
everything, as it turns out; the ProVari is definitely the best e-cigarette mod on the
market. Is it twice as good as the Lavatube, though? Read on to find out in this
ProVari review.

About the ProVari
At this point, you might be asking yourself why anyone in their right mind would
pay over $200 for an e-cigarette kit that includes virtually nothing but an e-
cigarette, a couple of batteries, a charger and some cartomizers. The answer is that
the ProVari is an e-cigarette marketed to experienced e-smokers — people who
already have their favorite e-liquid and know what attachments and accessories
they like. People who like their e-cigarettes but wish that the experience could be a
little more fulfilling in terms of throat hit and flavor.

voltage received from the battery to a higher voltage that you select. The result is a
more intense e-smoking experience; while a regular e-cigarette generates a little
under 7 watts of total power, the ProVari generates 12 watts with a single-coil
cartomizer or high-resistance atomizer and over 16 watts with a dual-coil
cartomizer. If you could imagine what it would be like to use an e-cigarette that
generates more than twice as much vapor as the one you’re using now, that’s
essentially what using the ProVari is like. The ProVari, though, is going to be
completely different — and a bit more complicated — than the e-cigarette you’re
used to.
Using the ProVari
As is the case with most e-cigarettes, using the ProVari begins with charging the
battery. The charger included with the Kit charges two batteries simultaneously, so
take advantage of it; plug both batteries in and wait for the indicator lights to turn
green. Next, twist the bottom cap off, insert the battery with the positive side facing
up and replace the bottom cap.
Now, set the voltage. Press the button five times until the screen reads “Pu.” Wait
for the screen to display the current voltage and then press the button again until it
reads “4.0.” Wait for the screen to clear before you continue. This is how you’ll raise
the voltage in the future.
If you’re using one of the Boge cartomizers included with the ProVari, fill it with a
syringe or by dripping e-liquid slowly into the filler material from a bottle. When the
filler is wet, twist it into the threading at the top of the e-cigarette and add a drip tip
if you like. If you’re using an atomizer, twist it into the ProVari and push the drip tip
into the top of the atomizer. Drip a bit of e-liquid into the drip tip and wait for it to
flow down to the heating coil.
Now you’re ready to go. Hold the button and puff. If the vapor tastes dry, add a bit
more e-liquid. If it’s good, you can begin raising the voltage to your desired level.
When you use the ProVari for the first time, I suggest raising the voltage no more
than a half volt at a time until you get used to vaping at high power levels. It can
really be intense at first.
You’ll need to get used to tapping the button constantly as you make adjustments.
The ProVari has several commands in addition to the one that raises the voltage.
You can also lower the voltage, check the battery power and atomizer resistance,
turn the button’s light off and turn the entire unit off. Every command requires
several button presses. While this means that the ProVari has a beautiful, sleek
design with just one button, it also means that you’ll be pressing that button a lot.
The good news is that the ProVari remembers your last voltage setting when you
switch batteries, so you won’t need to re-set it constantly.
ProVari vs. ProVari Mini

So, you might be wondering, what’s this I keep hearing about a ProVari Mini? The
ProVari Mini is a truly amazing device, and since it’s my primary e-cigarette it’s
just about always within arm’s reach. With the ProVari Mini, you get exactly the
same features as you’d get with the original ProVari, but you get them in a package
that’s almost an inch shorter. Instead of a 1100 mAh battery, the ProVari Mini uses
700 mAh batteries, so you get a bit less battery life. Otherwise, it’s the same e-
cigarette. That inch makes the ProVari Mini feel so much smaller than the original
ProVari — I’m really a big fan.
Conclusion
In terms of vapor production, appearance, fit and finish, battery usage and overall
experience, the ProVari is undoubtedly the best e-cigarette on the market.
However, at over $200 you’ll pay a lot for the privilege of using it.  If you haven’t
switched to e-smoking yet, I strongly suggest looking at V2 Cigs as their product is
ideal for beginners. If you’re a heavy smoker and feel that your nicotine needs are
higher than average, the Lavatube performs nearly as well as the ProVari and is
much simpler to use. For other e-smokers, if you have the room in your budget,
buy the ProVari and never look back.

Ploom Review
I must say that I was very intrigued to do The Ploom Review because its one of the
newest innovations to hit the electronic cigarette industry.  It is important to note
though it that The Ploom Vaporizer is not actually an electronic cigarette, well not
exactly.  Intrigued? So was I…
It is basically a product inspired by the hookah and the e-cig. This product was
tailor-made for those who just don’t get enough from an electronic cigarette and/or
are just looking for a different experience (like a hookah-to-go!). This method is not
usually preferred by heavy smokers as an everyday option, but is usually well-liked
by social smokers and for those once-a-day occasions.
HOW “The Ploom Vaporizer” WORKS
The Ploom Vaporizer starter kits contain the following: a model one (the ‘smoking’
device), four pod packs (flavor), a case in black or white, and Butane.
This is almost like a 3 alternative to electronic cigarettes and standard cigarettes –
who would have thought that such a thing existed!  This device does not use
batteries but instead is heated by Butane Gas. Flavor pods which contain real
tobacco, tea, and botanicals are put into the model one heating device and the heat
from the Butane turns the tobacco blend into a vapor that is inhaled. The pods can
then be thrown away after use.
Ploom offers a carrying case that comes in either black or white that holds two pod
packs and the model one unit. The cases cost $11.95 each.

The Ploom Vaporizer starter kit is $75 and includes a model one, four standard pod
packs, and a carrying case with Butane. The model one which is your small butane-
powered vaporizer, costs $40 individually.  A 12 pack of pods are $6 and one pod
usually lasts about 5-7 minutes. The Butane is sold for $4 for 1.48 oz and is enough
to refill the ‘model one’ smoking device about 20 times.
There are also extra mouthpieces for $5 for a 2 pack available. I get the feeling that
this is a product you could sit round and share with friends.
TASTE, VAPOR PRODUCTION, AND EASE OF DRAW
The different flavor ‘pods’ currently available are rocket, naked, café noir, orchard,
gold, blue tea, and kick-ass mint.   My personal experience during testing was that
the vapor production is much lower than an electronic cigarette yet the flavor was
still very pleasing as was the ‘hit’ I received from the device.

Whilst conducting my Ploom Review I noted that customer reviews for the Ploom
Starter Kit have been mostly positive. The Ploom vaporizer is a very promising
product with a potentially bright future, however one bit of advice – you do need to
be careful not to burn your lips.  I found that it’s easy to put your mouth too far
down the ‘barrel’ of the model one smoking device but if you’re careful and smoke it
the way its meant to be smoked then its not a problem.  Also, I found that vapor
production varied from pod to pod and I’m told this is to do with the manufacturing
process.
Turning the device on and off can be a bit tricky also. The Ploom Vaporizer is very
new and will I’m sure only get better. I believe the Model One to be a very
competent addition to the market and its certainly able to offer a totally different
esmoking experience that no other E cig brand can.  This innovation comes at a
price; I reckon it will average out as roughly the same cost as smoking traditional
cigarettes, so not a cheaper alternative.  Probably not just yet a product for
everyday use but definitely great for sharing with friends and ideal for parties, I
think it’s definitely worth a look if you’re feeling adventurous.

The Green Smoke brand is one of the most popular brands of electronic cigarette.
Before our Green Smoke review, we did some preliminary research and found that
Green Smoke are rated #1 in overall satisfaction and value by most reviewing

Future of ecigs?
At some stage, 25% of smokers will be using an e-cigarette. We don’t know when

this will be but it is not that far off – perhaps by 2025, perhaps earlier. Certainly, by
2013 we know that 6% of smokers will have converted. If the current rate of
growth continued then it would happen much sooner, but presumably a growth rate
of 500%+ per year cannot be maintained, and the graph will start to get less steep.
Keep in mind that Sweden reduced the number of smokers by 40%, by allowing
free purchase of smokeless tobacco (Snus). The death rate dropped by 40% in
parallel of course. This is why they have the lowest smoking- related death rate in
the developed world by a wide margin.
It is expected that the pharmaceutical industry will succeed in having e- cigarettes

Are ecigs legal?
Electronic cigarettes are legal to import, own and use in the UK, US, and most
European countires. There had been opposition to them by individual government
agencies in both the UK and US, but these objections were quashed by the courts
(in the US) and higher government (in the UK). It was claimed that “there was little
research”, or “we don’t know what’s in them”, or “we don’t know much about them”
– but since such statements are outright lies, and since there was a long list of
professors, doctors and epidemiologists who could refute those statements, and due

harm, the actions to ban e-cigarettes were overturned. In fact e-cigarettes can now

Death and disease associated with smoking are caused by the smoke and products
of combustion. If the smoke and combustion products such as carbon monoxide are
removed, risk is considerably reduced, probably by more than 99%.
Nicotine is not an overly harmful material, it is similar to caffeine/coffee in many
ways. It cannot cause cancer or any of the other diseases caused by smoking, as it is
the smoke that does this. It is impossible for e-cigarettes to cause lung cancer.
People who say that nicotine is a dangerous, toxic chemical presumably know little
or nothing about nutrition: nicotine is part of the diet; everyone everywhere tests
positive for it; and one of its metabolytes is a vitamin (niacin or Vitamin B3). Like
similar materials it is normally only present in minute quantities.
With the smoke removed, a user’s risk drops by several orders of magnitude. E-
cigarettes are extremely unlikely to cause cancer, heart disease, arterial disease, or
COPD as there is nothing in the vapor that can cause this. There is no smoke.
This is why all the extensive research on e-cigarettes, and all the senior medical
figures who have carried out this research or inspected it and commented on it,
reinforce the fact that e-cigarettes are far safer than tobacco cigarettes, and that
they should be introduced as swiftly as possible as an alternative to smoking, since
hundreds of thousands of lives will be saved if this is done.
There is a long list of senior medical figures such as professors in charge of public
health departments in hospitals, doctors who are clinical researchers, and
organisations such as the AAPHP, the American Association of Public Health
Physicians, and the ACSH, the American Council for Science and Health, who have
examined the evidence and pronounced e-cigarettes as safe for use as an
alternative smoking method with the object of saving lives.
It is important to note that a great deal of research has been carried out on e-
cigarettes. As an example, we know much more about what is in them than we do
about what is in tobacco cigarettes. Any statements that contradict this are untrue,
and most likely some form of propaganda. E-cigs have been used by millions of
people, globally, for many years – and there are no incidents of mortality that can
be directly linked to e-cigarette use. As yet there is no long- term population data
but this will not be available for another two decades. It should also be carefully
noted that even when this is available, as is the case for Snus – which are proven
safe by two and a half decades of research and the near-200 clinical trials and
surveys that say so, and by the simple fact that Sweden reduced their smoking-
related death rate by 40% – it will not stop the opposition to and lies about the
products, as some powerful interests will lose a great deal of money if electronic
cigarettes become widely available.
It is certainly true that some users will be intolerant to some ingredients. The
effects of such intolerance can be reduced or eliminated by changing to a different
brand of e-liquid with a different ingredient profile. There is such a wide range of
base materials and flavours available that it is impossible for all users to be
completely tolerant to all materials.

Definition of an ecig
A standard electronic cigarette has either two or three parts: a battery, atomizer
and cartridge; or a battery and combined atomizer-cartridge.
The battery is normally a 3.7 volt rechargeable Li-ion cell, with some electronics
packaged with it to control the recharge and discharge state.
The atomizer is a tiny coil of nichrome wire that heats the liquid and vaporises it. A
simplified description of how it works is that it is a combination of a toaster and a
kettle: the heater coil is exactly the same as that in a toaster but on a smaller scale;
and in use it works like a kettle, as the coil heats up while immersed in a liquid bath.
The result looks like steam but is well below th temperature needed for that, as it
utilises the same ingredient used in disco fog machines to create visible vapor – it is
mainly water vapor but at far lower temperature than steam.
The cartridge contains the refill liquid, which is normally held in some sort of sponge
or foam, and gravity-feeds it to the heater element.

When did ecigs start
The electronic cigarette was invented in the mid 20th century. There are two
patents for electrical smoking devices that are substantially similar to today’s e-
cigarette, which were never manufactured in quantity, and lapsed. Later, in China
in the mid-90′s, Hon Lik, a chemist and engineer who had seen his father die of
cancer, invented the modern version with electronic battery controls. As a smoker
himself, he wanted to find a way to obtain nicotine but without the risk to health,
and believed that if the smoke could be removed, then so would most if not all of the
risk. The idea was simply to continue to ‘smoke’ – but without the smoke. He
formed a company called Rú yan ( ?? – which in translation can best be said to
mean “Like Smoke”) to market his invention. The company is now called Dragonite.
By early 2006 e-cigarettes were available in the UK, and in the USA by the end of
the year. It is thought that by 2007 there were about 1,000 e-cigarette owners in
the UK, and the world’s first internet forum on the topic was started in London. The
