  1. Hello, and welcome to my presentation of Social Media and the opportunities it can provide for your company. My name is Debra Rossow, I am the Account Manager of Twotone Enterprises, LLC assigned to your needs. Today I will discuss with you the opportunities that are waiting on you with Social Media implemented in your Corporation. Much of the information that I will show you today have been researched by Dr. Anthony Curtis of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Dr. Curtis has taught classes in the Mass Communication Department at UNCP for several years. His understanding of Mass communication and Social Media is vast.
  2. From my own experience, AOL was my first Social media website back in 1986 when I was in school. At that time it seemed to be just a site to keep in touch with family and friends. As the years went by I have seen many new Social Media sites appear. These new sites became offered new functions that would soon become the norm for people all around the world to communicate, share and comment on. Seeing how the whole world is connected via the Internet, it would seem to be a logical step in a Corporation to encompass Social Media into the company.
  3. Dr. Curtis points out that “Social Media has come to age, with smartphones, tablets, laptops and personal computers. Currently the top 10 most used Social Media sites are Facebook, Blogger, Twitter, Wordpress, Linkedin, Pinterest, Google+ Tumblr, MySpace and Wikia.” (Curtis) I, myself currently have Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and MySpace. Every time someone logs on to their social media site a tracking program kicks in and gathers statistics regarding the persons likes on a particular page that they either visit frequently or just “liked”. This information is used for marketing purposes. Now when a person enters the Social media site they will see advertisements specially picked for them according to their surfing habits and “likes”. Dr. Curtis states, “Advertisers look to social “likes” to enhance brand visibility. “ (Curtis) From CompuServe in 1969 as the first Internet service provider in the United States to current day Internet service providers, we have come a long way.
  4. The marketing strategies that are used currently by corporations and small businesses are tipping the scale for the good. It is much easier to communicate on the fly with potential customers; you can update your current cliental more quickly of any changes or new products and features through Social media. Your cliental is more able to communicate with you regarding their specific needs. On each of the Social media sites, clients are able to “like” your Corporation Business site which in turn gives more visibility to the corporation brand. There is a downfall to Social media that can cause undesirable effects on a corporation and that would be caused by a wrong option selected that would cause a private or client message to go public. This is called viral communication. This type of communication spreads quickly and can cause a lot of controversy of a corporation.
  5. Getting involved with the Social media, as a corporation, gives you the ability to reach out across the world to promote your products or services. Once you have a cliental built up on your Social media site, your cliental broadens drastically since your clients already have their client lists with their clients looking at your site. Your corporate brand is much more visible across the world.
