• The project was to determine the importance of food processing industry in India. To assess this,
the project took non-alcoholic beverage industry as a case study and determined its contribution
to the Indian industry. The project also aimed at understanding the various regulations and issues
faced by the food processing industry in India
• Field surveys were conducted with the entire supply chain of the non-alcoholic beverage industry
including manufacturers, retailers, logistics service providers and consumers to understand the
key issues faced by the industry while operating in India
• On the basis of the survey findings a report named ‘Food processing Industry in India:
Unleashing the Potential of the Non-alcoholic Beverage Sector’, was published in December
2013 which made recommendations that would help the industry to flourish in India and increase
its contribution to the Indian economy
