Course director Eric Slaats is er al jaren van overtuigd dat studenten veel beter leren als je ze de ruimte geeft en aanspreekt op hun talenten. Sinds 2016 volgt een aantal studenten bij Fontys Hogeschool ICT de ‘Open opleiding’. Deze opleiding bereidt studenten voor op de nog onbekende toekomst. De studenten bepalen de leerroute naar hun diploma helemaal zelf: geen rooster, geen toetsen en zelfs geen voorgeschreven curriculum. De docent is in het systeem van de Open opleiding vooral een coach.
