TO LOVE CHIDREN EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION (TLC)
2011 ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES
To Love Children Educational Foundation is a registered non-governmental
organisation, created to help the poorest, most vulnerable, and marginalized children. Our focus
is on the development of educational programs and human rights for girl children in the
developing world. Throughout our activities, TLC has been motivated by a deep concern for girls
and women in the developing world who lack access to human rights, gender equality, gender
justice, the environment, sustainable development for women, social justice, health, clean
water, sustainable educational development education, and peace for children.

Meeting
In fulfilling its mandate, the Uganda Human Rights Commission on Thursday 24th November 2011 be
held a Stakeholders' Consultative Meeting to review the Public Order Management Bill at Protea
Hotel

Meeting
Human Rights Activists and Defenders how far they have mainstreamed issues of Disability the
success stories, lessons learnt, challenges and the way forward this was a recap of the May
workshop we held and attached was the invitation letter for the Thursday 15th December Hotel
Africana Workshop. National Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda-NUDIPU, Human Rights Department.

Meeting
The Uganda Human Rights Commission in fulfilling its mandate, organized a One Day Stakeholders'
Meeting to Discuss the Status of the Rights of Children and Women in Uganda. The meeting took
place on Tuesday 31st January 2012 at Imperial Royale Hotel.
Meeting
The Uganda Human Rights Commission in fulfilling its mandate, organized a One Day Stakeholders'
Meeting to promote the rights of human rights Defenders in Uganda. The meeting was scheduled to
take place on Wednesday 15th February 2012 at Golf Course Hotel.

To Love Children was invited to attend all the above meetings as one of the Commission’s key
Stakeholders in Children thematic group. TLC in it’s mandate to bring about the girl child
rights and education…

Office
The office was established in the year 2010 and is equipped with a desk-top computer donated by
Isaac Mbaziira, the African Director. TLC also owns office furniture including files and
supplies for office business.

Activity
TLC donated text-books to MLISADA for its Library in fulfillment of one of her objectives to
take care of the girl child. MLISADA is a non-governmental organisation which partners with TLC
to implement some of its programs. The books include but not limited to; Novels Children
Literature books and     English, Geography (Atlas books) Science, Mathematic, Social Science
texts. including Novels and Atlases.

The existence of this library has absolutely helped to transform the children’s poor reading
habits that come as a result of inadequate resources and what they perceive as a educational
burden hence losing hope. This can also be seen as a decrease in children drop-outs, thus love
of education. Furthermore, this library extends the level of literacy in the community and the
ability of academic understanding to those who can’t go to school.
Activity
TLC mobilized funds for a soap-making project for MLISADA’s children to enable them have little
finances to aid them in terms of food and health purposes. The essence of the project was also
to provide life skills and oversee the children who grow and find themselves out of the
organisation, use the same skills and knowledge to make ends-meet and/or support themselves to
acquire education from higher institutions of learning. The project was supported by Barclays
Bank through IPS Building Branch. Thanks a lot to Barclays Bank.
Activity
TLC worked with one of MLISADA girl children, Lillian, now grown up as a young lady with a
donation of two goats she can present to a woman and her girl child. Lillian wanted to give back
to show her appreciation for the help she received. Lillian is a successful student and art
designer, artist and is being recognized for her talents.




M-LISADA, is one of the Organizations TLC has been working with as partners; some of the
children supported by M-LISADA include orphans, street kids. TLC donated books to MLISADA's
library at their secretariat in Nsambya, Uganda. It is gratifying to see the books well worn,
out of use.

Barclays—TLC—M-LISADA Uganda
After an introduction of TLC activities and objectives to Julius Biibi - a Barlays Bank
Customer Advisor. Barclays Bank through IPS Branch is coming up with a community program. TLC
has selected M-LISADA organization as our partner. Barclays Bank each year referred to their as
"giving back to the community".
M-LISADA, is one of the Organizations TLC has been working with as partners, the children
supported by M-LISADA include orphans, street kids. Barclays Bank is bringing a community
program to train M-LISADA children how to make LIQUID SOAP. The purpose of training the children
is avail them with the knowledge and skills to know how to make this product and sell it in the
open market.

Another purpose of the training is to have their own soap they make, to be used by the children.
This financial based program, according to the Manager will also point at things to do with "how
to make money", and "how to save".
Kampala, Uganda
TLC through Barclays Bank brought a community program to practically train M-LISADA children how
to make Liquid Soap. The purpose of training the children was to avail them with the knowledge
and skills to know how to make this product and get food and clothes in turn. The other purpose
of the training was to have their own soap they make, get used by the very children. This was a
sustainable financial based program that focused on "how to make money", and "how to save".

Activity
TLC in conjunction with its affiliated office in the United States donated hospital equipment to
Virika Hospital, in Fort-Portal District, Uganda.
To Love Children Educational Foundation (TLC) along with an individual TLC friend from USA,
donated medical equipment to VIRIKA Hospital located in Fort Portal, Western Uganda. The
hospital/medical equipment was donated to VIRIKA Hospital through Sr. Sophia Asiimwe, who is a
medical doctor and living in the same hospital and operates on Girls with Fistula. Sr. Sophia
keeps truck of the women/girls’ health status not only in the hospital but within the area, and
all is done as a way to give a hand to the government in providing health to all/community.

The donation of the medical equipment was to see that it reduces the number of young women/girls
who die due to inadequate health services/equipment, while in the treatment process, giving them
back quality of life. Inadequate resources are some of the challenges the government faces in
providing health for all and thus TLC in fulfilment of its objectives wish to work with the
government to promote the 2015 UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)

Activity
In October and November 2011, TLC started training its staff on the implementation of its
HIV/Aids curriculum (Healthy and Smart HIV/Aids prevention curriculum for youths) and how to
carry it on during the pilot program.

Around the same period, it also started its up-country travels/tour to identify schools where
the program will be implemented on both pilot and/or full implementation of the program. The
program is aimed to strengthen girl-child/children’s understanding of the transmission of
HIV/Aids and both its short and long-term effects to human life and their lives in particular.

The curriculum was adapted from the Youth Peer Education Toolkit with permission from the United
Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the United Nation’s Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and Family Health
International (FHI).

Boys. Harvard Club, NY. 2011

On behalf of the mission of Uganda TLC, Founder and President Dr David Kenneth Waldman To Love Children
International, from our American office was invited panellist for Violence against Girls committee of the
Working Group on Girls, NGO Committee, UNICEF side event for the United Nation’s fifty-fifth session of
the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW55). 2011
Activity
UN WRITTEN STATEMENTS: On behalf of the mission of Uganda TLC, Founder and President Dr David Kenneth
Waldman of To Love Children International, 2011 written statement was accepted to High Level Panel of the
Economic and Social Council of United Nations on topic of educational development for girls. Statement
was distributed to all participants of the ECOSOC High Level Segment and translated into the six official
UN languages.      On behalf of the mission of Uganda TLC, Founder and President Dr David Kenneth Waldman of
To Love Children International 2011 Written Statement was accepted to High Level Segment of the Economic
and Social Council (ECOSOC) was distributed to all participants of the ECOSOC High Level Segment and
translated into the six official UN languages.




Activity
In January, 2011, To Love Children Uganda, updated its webpage http://tolovechildren.org/TLC_Uganda.html to raise
awareness and funding for its mission to create sustainable educational development opportunities for the girl child. See below for example.

  • 1. TO LOVE CHIDREN EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION (TLC) 2011 ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES
  • 2. To Love Children Educational Foundation is a registered non-governmental organisation, created to help the poorest, most vulnerable, and marginalized children. Our focus is on the development of educational programs and human rights for girl children in the developing world. Throughout our activities, TLC has been motivated by a deep concern for girls and women in the developing world who lack access to human rights, gender equality, gender justice, the environment, sustainable development for women, social justice, health, clean water, sustainable educational development education, and peace for children. Meeting In fulfilling its mandate, the Uganda Human Rights Commission on Thursday 24th November 2011 be held a Stakeholders' Consultative Meeting to review the Public Order Management Bill at Protea Hotel Meeting Human Rights Activists and Defenders how far they have mainstreamed issues of Disability the success stories, lessons learnt, challenges and the way forward this was a recap of the May workshop we held and attached was the invitation letter for the Thursday 15th December Hotel Africana Workshop. National Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda-NUDIPU, Human Rights Department. Meeting The Uganda Human Rights Commission in fulfilling its mandate, organized a One Day Stakeholders' Meeting to Discuss the Status of the Rights of Children and Women in Uganda. The meeting took place on Tuesday 31st January 2012 at Imperial Royale Hotel.
  • 3. Meeting The Uganda Human Rights Commission in fulfilling its mandate, organized a One Day Stakeholders' Meeting to promote the rights of human rights Defenders in Uganda. The meeting was scheduled to take place on Wednesday 15th February 2012 at Golf Course Hotel. To Love Children was invited to attend all the above meetings as one of the Commission’s key Stakeholders in Children thematic group. TLC in it’s mandate to bring about the girl child rights and education… Office The office was established in the year 2010 and is equipped with a desk-top computer donated by Isaac Mbaziira, the African Director. TLC also owns office furniture including files and supplies for office business. Activity TLC donated text-books to MLISADA for its Library in fulfillment of one of her objectives to take care of the girl child. MLISADA is a non-governmental organisation which partners with TLC to implement some of its programs. The books include but not limited to; Novels Children Literature books and English, Geography (Atlas books) Science, Mathematic, Social Science texts. including Novels and Atlases. The existence of this library has absolutely helped to transform the children’s poor reading habits that come as a result of inadequate resources and what they perceive as a educational burden hence losing hope. This can also be seen as a decrease in children drop-outs, thus love of education. Furthermore, this library extends the level of literacy in the community and the ability of academic understanding to those who can’t go to school.
  • 4. Activity TLC mobilized funds for a soap-making project for MLISADA’s children to enable them have little finances to aid them in terms of food and health purposes. The essence of the project was also to provide life skills and oversee the children who grow and find themselves out of the organisation, use the same skills and knowledge to make ends-meet and/or support themselves to acquire education from higher institutions of learning. The project was supported by Barclays Bank through IPS Building Branch. Thanks a lot to Barclays Bank.

  • 6. Activity TLC worked with one of MLISADA girl children, Lillian, now grown up as a young lady with a donation of two goats she can present to a woman and her girl child. Lillian wanted to give back to show her appreciation for the help she received. Lillian is a successful student and art designer, artist and is being recognized for her talents. M-LISADA, is one of the Organizations TLC has been working with as partners; some of the children supported by M-LISADA include orphans, street kids. TLC donated books to MLISADA's library at their secretariat in Nsambya, Uganda. It is gratifying to see the books well worn, out of use. Barclays—TLC—M-LISADA Uganda After an introduction of TLC activities and objectives to Julius Biibi - a Barlays Bank Customer Advisor. Barclays Bank through IPS Branch is coming up with a community program. TLC has selected M-LISADA organization as our partner. Barclays Bank each year referred to their as "giving back to the community".
  • 7. M-LISADA, is one of the Organizations TLC has been working with as partners, the children supported by M-LISADA include orphans, street kids. Barclays Bank is bringing a community program to train M-LISADA children how to make LIQUID SOAP. The purpose of training the children is avail them with the knowledge and skills to know how to make this product and sell it in the open market. Another purpose of the training is to have their own soap they make, to be used by the children. This financial based program, according to the Manager will also point at things to do with "how to make money", and "how to save". Kampala, Uganda TLC through Barclays Bank brought a community program to practically train M-LISADA children how to make Liquid Soap. The purpose of training the children was to avail them with the knowledge and skills to know how to make this product and get food and clothes in turn. The other purpose of the training was to have their own soap they make, get used by the very children. This was a sustainable financial based program that focused on "how to make money", and "how to save". Activity TLC in conjunction with its affiliated office in the United States donated hospital equipment to Virika Hospital, in Fort-Portal District, Uganda.

  • 9. To Love Children Educational Foundation (TLC) along with an individual TLC friend from USA, donated medical equipment to VIRIKA Hospital located in Fort Portal, Western Uganda. The hospital/medical equipment was donated to VIRIKA Hospital through Sr. Sophia Asiimwe, who is a medical doctor and living in the same hospital and operates on Girls with Fistula. Sr. Sophia keeps truck of the women/girls’ health status not only in the hospital but within the area, and all is done as a way to give a hand to the government in providing health to all/community. The donation of the medical equipment was to see that it reduces the number of young women/girls who die due to inadequate health services/equipment, while in the treatment process, giving them back quality of life. Inadequate resources are some of the challenges the government faces in providing health for all and thus TLC in fulfilment of its objectives wish to work with the government to promote the 2015 UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Activity In October and November 2011, TLC started training its staff on the implementation of its HIV/Aids curriculum (Healthy and Smart HIV/Aids prevention curriculum for youths) and how to carry it on during the pilot program. Around the same period, it also started its up-country travels/tour to identify schools where the program will be implemented on both pilot and/or full implementation of the program. The program is aimed to strengthen girl-child/children’s understanding of the transmission of HIV/Aids and both its short and long-term effects to human life and their lives in particular. The curriculum was adapted from the Youth Peer Education Toolkit with permission from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the United Nation’s Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and Family Health International (FHI).

Activity On behalf of the mission of Uganda TLC, Founder and President Dr David Kenneth Waldman To Love Children International, our American office, was invited panellist for Violence against Girls committee of the Working Group on Girls NGO Committee UNICEF, Topic: Making our Schools Safer: Working with Girls and Boys. Harvard Club, NY. 2011 On behalf of the mission of Uganda TLC, Founder and President Dr David Kenneth Waldman To Love Children International, from our American office was invited panellist for Violence against Girls committee of the Working Group on Girls, NGO Committee, UNICEF side event for the United Nation’s fifty-fifth session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW55). 2011

Activity UN WRITTEN STATEMENTS: On behalf of the mission of Uganda TLC, Founder and President Dr David Kenneth Waldman of To Love Children International, 2011 written statement was accepted to High Level Panel of the Economic and Social Council of United Nations on topic of educational development for girls. Statement was distributed to all participants of the ECOSOC High Level Segment and translated into the six official UN languages. On behalf of the mission of Uganda TLC, Founder and President Dr David Kenneth Waldman of To Love Children International 2011 Written Statement was accepted to High Level Segment of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) was distributed to all participants of the ECOSOC High Level Segment and translated into the six official UN languages. Activity In January, 2011, To Love Children Uganda, updated its webpage http://tolovechildren.org/TLC_Uganda.html to raise awareness and funding for its mission to create sustainable educational development opportunities for the girl child.
