5. COREINDRE
B.N.- Coriandrum sativum
FAMILY- Umbelliferae
Coriander is native to regions spanning from southern
Europe and northern Africa to southwestern Asia.
It is a soft plant growing to 50 cm (20 in) tall. The leaves are
variable in shape, broadly lobed at the base of the plant,
and slender and feathery higher on the flowering stems.
The flowers are borne in small umbels, white or very pale
pink, asymmetrical, with the petals pointing away from the
center of the umbel longer (5–6 mm or 0.20–0.24 in) than those
pointing toward it (only 1–3 mm or 0.039–0.118 in long).
The fruit is a globular, dry schizocarp 3–5 mm (0.12–0.20 in) in
diameter.
6. LAND REQUIREMENT
Land to be used for seed production of coriander
shall be free from volunteer plants.
In additional the soil should be light, well drained
and with a good fertility.
The soil of seed plot should be compratively free
from soil borne diseases and insect pest.
In the preceding season the same crop should
have not been grown on this field .
The seed plot must be levelled.
8. Field preparation and sowing:
Prepare the main field to a
fine tilth and form beds and
channels (for irrigated crop).
Sow the split seeds at a
spacing of 20 x 15 cm. The
seeds will germinate in about
8-15 days.
Presowing seed hardening
treatment with Potassium
Dihydrogen Phosphate @
10g/lit of water for 16 hours is
to be done for rainfed crop.
Seeds are to be treated
with Azospirillum @ 3
packets/ha. Seed treatment
with Trichoderma viride @ 4
9. SOURCE OF SEED-
Obtain foundation seed , certified seed from source
approved by a certified agency.
SEED RATE:
10 - 12 kg/ha (Irrigated crop) 20 – 25 kg/ha (Rainfed
crop)Whole seed will not germinate and hence the
seeds are split open into halves before sowing for
more germination percentage.
SOWING TIME : Mid October to mid November.
SEASON : Rabi
BRIEF CULTURAL PRACTICES
10. SEED TREATMENT:
Soak the seeds in water for 12 hours. Treat the
seeds with Azospirillum @ 1.5 kg /ha for better
crop establishment + Trichoderma viride @ 50
kg/ha to control wilt disease.
Pre sowing seed hardening treatment with
Potassium Dihydrogen Phosphate @ 10 g/lit of
water for 16 hours is to be done for rainfed
crop.
SPACING
30 * 15 cm
11. MANURING:
Basal
FYM 10 t/ha; 10 kg N, 40 kg P and 20 kg K for rainfed
and irrigated crops.
Top dressing
Top dressing may be done at 10 kg N/ha 30 days after
sowing for the irrigated crop only.
IRRIGATION(FORIRRIGATED CROP ONLY):
First irrigation should be given immediately after
sowing and the second on the third day and
subsequent irrigations at 7-10 days interval.
12. Weed control
Pre-emergence spray of herbicide
Fluchloralin 700 ml in 500
lit/ha. Thinning is done 30 days after
sowing. Subsequent weeding is done
as and when necessary. Leave 2
plants per hill. Spray CCC @ 250 ppm
one month after sowing for inducing
drought tolerance in rainfed crops.
13. ROUGHING
The Off Types Should Be Remove Both At
Flowering And At Maturity Stage .
The Plant Of Weed Should Be Scrupulously
Removed From The Field Prior To Harvest.
All field area are free from weeds are very
essential.
14. INTERCULTURAL OPERATION
Timely weeding and intercultural are essential.
Periodic hoeing and weeding keep the field.
For control of broad leave weeds spray 2-4 d at
the rate of 0.5kg active ingrediant per hecter in
750 litters water after 25 to 30 days of sowing.
For control of narrow leaf use of isoproturon 20
ec @ 2-3 litter per ha. With irrigation water.
16. HARVESTING
When 60% to 80% of grain turns to straw yellow
colour.
harvesting is done by sickle is best method.
care must be exercised to ensure that labours do
not mixe the harvested certified seed with other
seed on farm.
THRESHING
thresing are done on cemented flore.
avoid to machanical mixture.
use of proper storage.
