The document provides release notes for updated training workshops for IBM Rational Integration Tester 8.5.0. Major changes include:
1) All modules have been updated to use Linux instead of Windows.
2) New Platform modules have been added that simplify content using the addNumbers web service.
3) Modules have been updated for new features in Rational Integration Tester 8.5.0, including use of synchronization for system modeling and new exercises on test automation, virtualization, and performance testing.

1 General updates to the course materials
1.1
Purpose of this release
The purpose of this release is to provide an update to the training materials for the latest version of IBM®
Rational® Integration Tester and its associated tools: Rational Test Control Panel, Rational Test
Virtualization Server, Rational Performance Test Server and the Rational Integration Tester Platform Pack.
This update covers a number of new features in the software, rearranges some of the material that was there
previously, and simplifies a number of modules.
1.2
Major changes in this release
1.3
All modules have been updated to use Linux; they should work on both RHEL and SUSE Linux. Microsoft
Windows is no longer supported as a default platform for the training course; most modules would still
work with minor alterations, but this is up to the user.
A new set of modules has been added: the Platform modules. These have taken a lot of the earlier material,
simplified it further by using the addNumbers web service, and an additional tool, the addNumbers client.
This replaces much of the material that was previously used in the Integration Testing modules and some
material that was in the Virtualization modules.
Changes and additions to this release
Integration testing
o Some material has been moved to the Platform modules.
o Synchronization is now used to build most of the model of the system under test because IBM
WebSphere® Application Server synchronization was added to Rational Integration Tester
8.5.0. However, this does not build a complete model of the system under test; WebSphere
Application Server does not have enough information about the WebSphere MQ services to
build a complete model, so recording of these services is still necessary.
o The log file monitoring exercise has been updated to use a log file produced by the Vacation
Booking system, rather than a hand-edited file.
o New modules have been added on test automation. This includes information on the use of
global tags to pass values between tests, managing historical test suite results, and scheduling
tests for later execution using Rational Test Control Panel.
Performance testing
o Beyond the update to Linux, this material has only had a general review. The only major
change has been the switch from using the Windows Performance Monitor Probe to the
System Statistics Probe, because the former is unavailable on Linux.
Virtualization
o Some material has been moved to the Platform modules.
o Synchronization is now used to build most of the model of the system under test because
WebSphere Application Server synchronization was added to Rational Integration Tester
8.5.0. However, this does not build a complete model of the system under test; WebSphere
Application Server does not have enough information about the WebSphere MQ services to
build a complete model, so recording of these services is still necessary.
o An exercise has been added to make use of the message differencing window for stubs.
o An exercise has been added to introduce scripting with ECMAScript.
o The exercise on using guards in stubs has been simplified.
o A module has been added for the sift-and-pass-through feature. This includes an example for
WebSphere MQ, as well as a second one for a web service. The second example also
introduces the pass through action; this can be used to activate the pass through functionality
at any point in the business logic of a stub.
