Executive Summary
What is Google?: It was founded on September 4, 1998 by Larry Page and
Sergey Brinwho where college students at the time. There initial idea for Google,
what was then calledBackRub,was to have a place where youcouldfind
anything. It eventually turnedinto Google, and is now one of the largest search
engine sites on the internet today.Inaddition, Google also works with
advertising and many other outlets.
For the group project our team has chosen to research the positionof
Human Resource Manger at Google and we have learned that not only has Google
createdan amazing place to work but also a great place to grow withinthe
company. For this report our group analyzed ways that said company,Google,
handles the different fields of: recruiting, hiring, firing, evaluations, etc. A human
resource manager at Google is responsible for helping bridge communication
between employees and managers, helpresolve issues that may arise between
employees and customers, and other issues relating to employees and their
wellbeing.
We learned that it takes Google about 61 days, or 8+ weeks, to have an
employee hired and working independently on the job, which is about average
for other jobs in this area. They go through different phases such as: interviews,
resume screenings, and more.
3. When it comes to advantages that Google creates for themselves when it
comes to hiring, they are vast. Google offers internships, competitive monthly
pay and the list goes on. One thing that our group found very interesting was
Google’s “80/20” rule. This “rule” allows Google employees to spend 80% of
their time working on work related projects but also allows them 20% to work
on non-work relatedprojects. Google also offers: 401k, health insurance, life
insurance, and programs to help families with healing after the death of a family
member. Some of the skills Google looks for are but not limitedtoo:people
skills,leadership, good work ethic,etc.
We also learned that the HumanResource Manger positionfocuses on
three key areas: Human Resources,Project Management, and Employee
Relations. They spend about 35% the time on Human Resources,30% on Project
Management, and 35% on Employee Relations.
By going more indepth in our report, you cansee that Google makes it
easy to want to stay and grow with the company and has some of the best
incentives inthe job market today.Although it can be challenging to get onboard
with Google, which many have stated, it is well worth the challenge.
It is recommended that Google:
Work to increase “time to hire” timeline to be competitive.
Continue their current practices.
