VIEWERS BY INDUCING FEELINGS OF HORROR AND TERROR.
3. 30s
ï” 30s, later we have the universal studios Golden Age of monsters in films
bringing well known films such as âFrankensteinâ to the screens. At this
stage due to the Nazi uprising most German talent was forced out of
Germany.
ï” Frankenstein- An obsessed scientist assembles a living being from parts of
exhumed corpses.
4. 40s
ï” 40s, eventually the monster movies became old news. Studios resorted to
comedy horrors, other studios chose a more serious-minded horror. Most
well-known being âcat peopleâ.
ï” Cat people- An American man marries a Serbian immigrant who fears that
she will turn into the cat person of her homeland's fables if they are
intimate together.
5. 50s
ï” 50s with the cold war fears and the threat of a nuclear war producers
followed the line of mad scientist and mutant creation such as âGodzillaâ.
ï” Godzilla- American nuclear weapons testing results in the creation of a
seemingly unstoppable, dinosaur-like beast.
6. 60s
ï” The 60s, showing the era of social revolution films were just as
controversial with the levels of violence, gore and sexuality. Films like
âPeeping Tomâ and âPsychoâ. And then the film âNight of the Living Deadâ
which changed the brand of zombie films forever.
ï” Also the time of Alfred Hitchcock.
ï” Psycho- A Phoenix secretary embezzles $40,000 from her employer's client,
goes on the run, and checks into a remote motel run by a young man
under the domination of his mother.
7. 70s
ï” The 70s tackled religion and other social issues such as sexism. Again the
violence was very apparent with films such as âThe Texas chainsaw
Massacreâ.
ï” The Texas Chainsaw Massacre- Two siblings visit their grandfather's grave
in Texas along with three of their friends and are attacked by a family of
cannibalistic psychopaths.
8. 80s
ï” In the 80s the slasher films dominated for the first half with âProm Nightâ and
âNightmare on Elm Streetâ and the later half became more light-hearted with âEvil
Dead 2â.
ï” Prom night- A masked killer stalks four teenagers, responsible for the accidental
death of a little girl six years earlier, at their high school's senior prom.
10. 2000s
ï” Many other countries joined the innovation of horror films such as Canada
with âginger snapsâ, Thailand with âshutterâ and the UK with â28 Days laterâ.
Most of the 2000s were American remakes of films like âFriday the 13thâ.
ï” Friday the 13th - A group of young adults discover a boarded up Camp
Crystal Lake, where they soon encounter Jason Voorhees and his deadly
intentions.
ï” Ginger snaps - Two death-obsessed sisters, outcasts in their suburban
neighborhood, must deal with the tragic consequences when one of them
is bitten by a deadly werewolf.
The likes of ginger snaps became a film series.
