Shrek is an ogre who lives alone in a swamp that is overrun by fairy tale creatures. He embarks on a quest with Donkey to rescue Princess Fiona from a dragon-guarded tower in order to lift a curse and regain control of his swamp. Along the way, Shrek and Fiona fall in love, but she is hiding a secret about transforming into an ogre every night. They eventually defeat the main antagonist, Shrek accepts Fiona for who she is, and they live happily ever after.
