Dear Dr. Maness:
I am writing to apply for the technician position with your Henslow’s Sparrow study. I
am currently a junior studying Fisheries and Wildlife at the University of Missouri in Columbia
with plans to graduate in Fall 2016, and I believe my academic background and my eagerness to
apply the skills I’ve acquired to real world experiences makes me an ideal applicant.
Combining the navigation skills I learned in my scuba class along with my time bird
watching in Ornithology class, I am confident I will be able to search for birds and their nests in
physically demanding conditions. In addition to my experience assisting the medical staff at the
Wildlife Rescue Center, using mist nests in Ornithology taught me how to handle birds. Holding
the same waitressing job for several years taught me how important punctuality and hard work
are to keeping any organization running smoothly and efficiently.
I am excited about the opportunity to partake in field research and learn more about using
radio telemetry to track Henslow’s Sparrows. Thank you for considering my application. I look
forward to hearing from you to further discuss my qualifications for this position.
Sincerely,
Danielle Tevlin
