Daniel Morland proposes creating a digital racing magazine drawing on his experience with previous graphical projects. He will research racing entertainment, audiences, and magazine/video styles to design content inspired by publications like Autosport and a video-like presentation. Evaluation will compare his work to these sources and gather audience feedback to improve his planning and media career skills. The proposal outlines 15 weeks of background research, experimentation, production, peer feedback, and self-evaluation culminating in an analysis of how the project met his original goals.

Main area of activity:
Digital Graphical Magazine
Rationale: 150 words approx.
Review your progress throughout the 2 years- what products have you made and what skills and
knowledge have you acquired? How will you use those skills?
What was your previous, similar production and how will it have a direct impact upon your project?
Immediately, I think of two graphical projects. The first being My Red Goat rock climbing
magazine, and my second graphical project which was my EFT magazine. Both projects I learned
many skills and techniques which I want to carry forward to my final. The main skill I want to take
forward to this final magazine is planning. On my previous magazine, what lacked was the
planning, as I went into each page knowing the style and content, but not the techniques and
layout.
Project Concept: 200 words approx.
What is the concept for your project and what are you going to make?
What research will you need to conduct and how will it help you make your project?
My project will be about racing. Primarily looking at real races as well as games, products (physical
and virtual) and the community surrounding them. My research will include, gathering product
information. Looking on different entertainment platforms for streamers and youtubers at the
content they produce and how I can take it into graphical form. Also understanding who the
magazine will be for is another factor that I research.
Taking forward my knowledge of racing and different entertainment channels; I want to incorporate
the static nature of magazines and the creative style of videos. Videos are great at giving their
viewers a lot of information verbally, which is quick and easy to decipher, whereas magazines
allow people to stay on the page and look at the work put into it. I believe a clean middle ground is
achievable.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed: 150 words approx.
How do you plan to evaluate the work? Reference conducting on-going evaluation (Production
Reflections) and your final self-reflection (Evaluation), analysing your work and its outcomes.
How will this process help developing your working practices as you continue with your
study/media career?
Evaluating my work, will be aimed at comparing the content to magazines and the style to videos.
Taking content inspiration from Magazines such as Autosport and The Race will be effective for
me to come back to and see how the writing, font context compares to their examples. What
questions are they asking? Where is text on the page, and what I extracted from their magazines
and applied them to mine. Videos on YouTube is the other comparison that I will make. The style,

transitions and colours are all aspects to take away, and evaluate how effectively I withdrew the
positives from videos and recreated it in magazine form.
Production reflections will be one technique I will use when evaluating my work in this project. I
want to check my plan and research daily, not only for evaluation but also for idea generation and
keeping my production on the same lines.
Another aspect I want to get right is the audience reception. continually asking for feedback from
my audience about the contents of the magazine, but I will need to see how possible it will be to
gather such information during this pandemic.

Show: Minimum input doing an analysis video of your own work linking back to influences and your
original intentions for the project. Some students have done broadcasts, exhibitions and screenings of
their work also to get a higher grade. Though you may not be able to do this due to Covid, you can
still plan and record your ideas as if you were able to for a higher grade.
