Downloading Books from BARD for Your Digital Player
Audiobooks Portable Players & Computers
1. Downloading Audiobooks to Computers & Portable Players
Audiobooks are available from Overdrive in two formats, MP3 and WMA. Not all audio books are available in both formats. MP3 is a uni-
versal format and if you have a choice, MP3 is the format to choose. WMA is a Windows-only format and will play only on Windows de-
vies.
There are two basic ways of downloading audiobooks: downloading first to your computer then transferring the audio files to a portable
device, or downloading directly to a smartphone or tablet. All methods of downloading audiobooks require you to install the Overdrive
Media Console. The Overdrive Media Console is available for Windows and Mac computers. It is also available as an app for iPod Touch/
iPhone/iPad, Android phones & tablets, Kindle Fire tablets, Nook tablets, and Blackberry devices. Downloading audiobooks for
smartphones and tablets is covered in a separate guide.
Installing the Overdrive Media Console for Windows & Mac
Go to www.brandonlibrary.org and click the EBOOKS icon. This will take you to the Over-
drive site. Scroll to the bottom of the Overdrive site and click the Software link. This will take
you to the Overdrive software download page. Click Overdrive Media Console.
Next choose your operating system and
click Download Now. Some versions of
Windows will drop the setup program
into your Downloads or My Downloads
folder. If this is the case go to the Down-
loads or My Downloads folder and dou-
ble-click the ODMediaConsoleSetup.msi
file. Other versions of Windows may ask
you if you wish to save or run the file.
Select run.
Agree to the Overdrive license terms and follow the prompts. When you are finished the Overdrive Media Console will be in-
stalled on your computer. To run the Media Console, simply click the Overdrive Media Console icon on your desktop or select
the program from your Start Menu under All Programs.
Apple Macs will download the program to your Downloads folder. Open your Downloads folder and double-click the
ODMediaConsoleSetup.dmg file which will extract the ODMediaConsole.pkg installation package. Double-click the installation
package and follow the prompts. Overdrive Media Console will install into your Applications folder by default.
To find and download audiobooks, you will first need to navigate to the Overdrive website using your computer’s browser. Open your
browser and go to www.brandonlibrary.org and click the EBOOKS icon. This will take you to the Overdrive site. In the upper right-hand
corner click Sign In.

titles available for immediate download.

Borrow button. This will place the book on your bookshelf. Click your browser’s back button twice to return to your list and continue
