The iDS™ Cable Trough is available in two widths, 100mm
(size 1) and 240mm (size 2). Each unit consists of a base
and seperate lid which when joined can provide a lockable
secure enclosure for efficient cable management.
The units have been design so that they incorporate the
ability to be installed in parallel providing a neat solution
where cables may need to be seperated.
The flexible design enables the iDS™ Cable Trough to be
installed inground, surface mounted or elevated for use in
bridge work or over difficult terrain.
Introduction
iDS™ Cable Trough is ideal for laying in signal and communication lines, on railway routes and in power
plants and industrial installations. The speed of installation is particularly useful with short closure times
or where track access is limited due to ground difficulties or time is a factor. It’s structural design ensures
that it maintains stability in spite of its low weight and it provides cables and pipes with effective
protection against external influences.

Laying Instructions
The iDS™ cable trough has been developed as a result of many years of practical experience and
discussions with rail operators, contractors, site managers and installers. This combined knowledge and
experience has resulted in the creation of the iDS™ Cable Trough.
The design allows for a strong, easy and sustainable installation. The external side walls ensure that
when the cable duct is back-filled it enables the load bearing capability to increase offering a strong
and robust installation.
The iDS™ CableTrough covers are designed to overlap when seated in place this results in the prevention
of material entering the tough. This design ensures it is still possible to open a single cover in a formation
without having to raise the adjacent covers at the same time.
Where linear expansion caused by solar radiation is a consideration the iDS™ CableTrough has a carefully
designed joint feature which allows for expansion and contraction without effecting the structural
integrity of the product. The product is also manufactured in lighter colours to reflect heat if the rail
operator feels it is necessary.
General
iDS™ Elevate
iDS™ Elevate is a GRP (Glass Reinforced Polymer) and PP
(Polypropylene) Cable Trough and tray system offering rail network
owners the opportunity to install cable runs in an elevated position
either trackside or over bridges. The resultant installation reduces
maintenance frequency and provides an excellent product lifespan.
Developed with Safety and Design in mind the iDS™ Elevate has
been designed to offer a quicker, simpler product installation
when compared with traditional systems. Innovatively designed
with minimal sectional pieces iDS™ Elevate provides strength and
durability furthermore at the end of its product cycle the products
are easy to remove and recycle thereby providing a small carbon
footprint.
iDS™ Elevate Box

therefore the need to bond or earth
• Saves on time and money spent

• Troughs can be set to optimim
height or multi-stacked.
• Unique (patent applied for)
trough jointing sleeve which
grips to body and locates
under top lip.
• Sleeve allows for track curve
and covers the joint.
• Sleeve joint system results in
no loss of load performance
• Eliminates usual steel fixing plates, steel
bolts and the time needed to fit them.
• No exposure risk to cables within the
trough.
• Joints do not need to‘line up’with the
mounting brackets.
• Greatly reduces install times and
inventory.
• Eliminate cable damage and/or
theft entry point.
• A big plus for installers if the
posts are not exactly on 3 metre
spacings
• Multiple security options
• Lid‘clamp’which secures lids
together and lid to body.
• Anti-lift out clamp which fits
over the posts.
• Sliding groove lock which
secures trough from lift out.
• Used alone or for multiple locking
point.
• Can be fitted anywhere the lids join.
• Secure lid and body at the same time.
• Works with all trough sizes in the one
fitting.
• Easy and faster to install solutions
mean locks are much more likely
to be fitter by site poeple versus a
more complex lock.
• ‘H’Section Profile • High vertical load performance, even
on long spans. Resists cable weight and
occasional people loads.
• Standard 3 metre spans (perfect mix
between post reduction and handling
on site)
• Reducing the number of posts
required reduces installation time
and cost by up to a third
• 6 metre spans possible NB*
Longer joint sleeve required
• Push fit angles 11.25 to 90
degree for changing direction
laterally and/ or vertically
• No Bolts
• Provides for tight and slow bends
• Reduces more time consuming
operations and makes changes in
direction simple
The materials used are light and yet have a structural integrity ordinarily seen in steel and /or concrete, however they
do not suffer from the conductivity, corrosion and theft issues of steel and the weight problems of concrete.
With occupational health and safety in mind the support posts and rails are all GRP which eliminates the conductivity
risk altogether.

Concrete Canvas
Concrete Canvas is a geosynthetic cementitious mat (GCCM), part
of a revolutionary new class of construction materials. It is a flexible,
concrete impregnated fabric that hardens on hydration to form a thin,
durable, water proof and fire resistant concrete layer.
Essentially, it’s concrete on a roll. The material is predominantly used for
erosion control applications such as ditch lining and slope protection,
offering a faster, more cost effective alternative to conventional
concrete and reduces the need for lengthy line possession.
User Benefits
CC can be laid at a rate of 200sqm/hour, up to 10 times faster than conventional
concrete solutions. CC has a working time of 2 hours after hydration and can be
installed in wet weather conditions, reducing program disruption.
Rapid Install
CC is available in man portable rolls for applications with limited access. The concrete is pre-mixed so
there is no need for mixing, measuring or compacting. Just add water.
Easy to Use
The speed and ease of installation mean CC is more cost effective than conventional concrete, with
less logistical complexity.
Low Project Cost
CC is a mass, low carbon technology which uses up to 95% less material than conventional concrete
for many applications. Up to 200sqm can be delivered on a single pallet; enough to replace two full
mixer trucks
Eco Friendly
Key Properties
CC prevents surface erosion from weathering and has twice the abrasion resistance of OPC.
Erosion Protection
CC has excellent drape characteristics, allowing the material to conform to organic profile of the
substrate making it more homogenous with the surrounding environment.
Conforms to Profile
CC can be supplied in man portable rolls eliminating the need for plant on site and allowing for
installation in areas with restricted access. Prior to hydration, CC layers can be cut to length using basic
hand tools, eliminating wastage.
Plant Not Required
CC acts as an effective weed inhibitor, preventing costly maintenance required for unlined ditches.
Reduced Maintenance
Moss can grow on the fibrous top surface of CC resulting in it‘greening over’, helping the CC to blend
in with its surroundings. CC has a minimum design liffe of 50 years whn installed correctly.
Ageing
Concrete Canvas
In June 2013, Queensland Rail installed Concrete Canvas
GCCM on a slope adjacent to a railway line in Wooloowin.
Concrete Canvas GCCM was being trialed as a protective
covering for the slope, allowing Queensland Rail to assess
its suitability for permantly eliminating vegetation from
high risk locations within the rail corridor.
Prior to installation the project site was cleared of
all vegetation and debris, subsurface drainage was
installed and the slopes re-graded. Bulk rolls of all
three thicknesses of Concrete Canvas GCCM were then
delivered to site and dispensed using a crane truck and
spreader beam. Once laid and cut to length, ground pegs
were used to fix the Concrete Canvas GCCM to the crest
and toe of the slope whilst adjacent layers were branded
together using silkaflex pro and fixed with steel screws.
The Concrete Canvas GCCM was then hydrated using a
water truck.
Queensland Rail described the installation as successful
and stated that Concrete Canvas GCCM met all
installation expectations. There was also no need for
specialist training or equipment to complete the project
which assisted in reducing project cost as well as
avoiding any associated logistical difficulties with men or
equipment.
