2. The purpose I have for constructing such questionnaire is to really obtain what my specific target
audience desires mostly from a product that follows the indie genre. I initially had stylist ambition in
regards to the layout and overall structure for my piece but if the research I collate infers that my
concepts are either impracticable or simply not accepted by the individuals whom I am striving to
impress then I shall accordingly make alterations to ensure successes throughout all areas.The age
range that I was intending on catering to was particularly vague so I feel as though I have a responsibility
to interconnect with a range of people to seek their preferences and ultimately what they look for when
scanning the magazine shelf within a store, for example warm/cool toned themes, colour schemes and
the incorporation of gender. At this stage it would most likely be worth me elaborating upon strictly
who my target market entails to provide a greater comprehension when analysing my findings.As I
began to study and research extensively the indie genre and what connotations were provoked I
recognised that fans of such bands are partially adolescents and young people as many songs convey a
sense of realism and support through the difficult stages of development and progression so act as a
provider of stability or escapism within one’s life.As a result I was capable of deciding upon a certain age
range of 16-32 approximately as it opened my product to a wider audience making it more profitable
which is what every producer aspires to achieve within their work and projects.This was ideal for my
circumstance as I myself am aged within this scale so am frequently surrounded by people of these ages
making asking of fondness and opinions far more convenient. In relation to gender specifics I discovered
that there was a rather wide spread of both male and female individuals whom shared an appreciation
for indie so I decided to not isolate one or the other but instead attend to both of their preferences and
create a piece that were unisex. In order to achieve this I am going to involve a mature colour scheme
including mainly black and white with the occasional pop of colour to express the sense of edge
commonly associated with the indie culture.

From criticising my results it is apparent that the 40 beings questioned in relation to the assumed colour scheme believed
that expected colourings within a magazine cover would include black and white with the infrequent use of bright colour.
However quite a mass leaned towards the use of pastel and less flamboyant tones which is worth researching and
contemplating for my own design work.The inclusion of the two schemes may secure success more so than not. It is evident
that to ensure so though I must entirely neglect the use of patterns and fluctuation throughout my product as the target
market are against the aesthetics associated and stereotypically it would be incorrect to do so.

4. WHAT ATTRACTSTHE EYE,

The findings imply that the younger market tends to share an appreciation for unique characteristics within magazine
covers and existing products strive to achieve just that so they are capable of recalling according brands on the market
currently that already demonstrate peculiar concepts through their work. Despite this the older end on the range proposed
similarly but not by far emphasising that also a correct layout and structure is fundamental and imperative in order to be
deemed as maintaining professionalism. For my own magazine spread I must as a result review and incorporate both
features evenly.This will create a nice balance between the two satisfying the majority of my expected viewers exceedingly.

5. WHAT GENDERWOULD
YOU ANTICIPATE ON
SEEKING ON A COVER?
To evaluate it is expressed quite clearly that many expect to witness a male artist on the cover of an indie
magazine as oppose to females perhaps due to patriarchal ideologies where women experience minimal
empowerment and opportunity and this structure has been included within society since humans came to be.
Otherwise reasoning may suggest that there are simply not many female artists whom have a reputation
under this genre although it would be nice to see a woman on a cover to defy any existing stereotypical
misconceptions. Doing so will also attend to the 'Male Gaze‘ satisfying men whilst supporting women in
feeling slightly more superior in comparison to their common circumstance, I will consider the notion and
possible impact of either featuring a man or lady for my own product to secure the satisfaction of more
individuals within my target market.

My findings suggest that effectively, the majority of people connote
string instruments with indie music and least so instruments from the
woodwind group. I found it important to explore this as existing
magazines tend to present instruments as props aesthetically and they
incorporate them into design work. Therefore if I take a strict
conventional approach I will have a clearer vision on the common
trends avoiding confusion if I were to select something less
inappropriate to thru genre.
