3. Introduction
Highschool serves as the preparatory level for students before stepping into college.It is
consisted of various subjects in accordance with their chosen strand.These subjects develop
students through the method of using higher level of teaching broader lessons,and actual
application of learnings in real life.Some of this subjects were extracted from college-level
courses and this serves as an introductory phase for them to be prepared.This study will focus
on how students adjust their social and emotional aspects in preparation for their tertiary
learning ,also on how they handle different challenges that affects their decisions towards their
tertiary learning.
4. Background of the Study
Senior high school is recognized as the last two years of secondary level of
education under K-12 program.According to the official website of
Department of Education,the two additional years will equip learnes with
skills that will prepare them for the future.It is a preparation that help
students of all ages to to better comprehend their emotions,to feel emotions
fully,and demonstrate empathy for others.These learned behavior are then
used to help students make positive,responsible decisions,create
framework to achieve their goals,and build positive relationship with others.
With the help of K-12 program,students were already exposed in broad
subjects that prepared them for the college environment and atmosphere.
5. According to our research there are factors to consider upon college
preparation.These are the following:
1.Course and grades
2.Student’s skills,knowledge and habits of mind
-the cognitive strategies emphasized in entry-level college courses
such as analysis reasoning and argumentation,and interpretation.
3.Highschool instruction
-the link between teacher and the learners.Teachers guide them in
selecting their courses and often act as guidance councelors,giving
advice about tertiary options.
4.K-12 education
-these are learnings and subjects thought during the junior and senior
highshool.
6. Theoretical/conceptual framework
We summarizes the core principal and practices that characterizes effective school-based social and
emotional educational teaching and learning.We detailed the essential importance of parents and
school personnel acting and thinking in socially and emotionally competent ways.We describe the
range of evidence-based programmatic efforts that purposefully seek to promote student’s social and
emotional competency to further effective social,emotional and academic learning.Underlying the
evidence-based programmatic efforts are caring,respectful and supportive relationships:the optimal
foundation for all teaching and learning.
Through the social and emotional aspects of students it encompasses the processes through which
learners attain and effectively apply the knowledge,attitudes,and skills necessary to identify and
manage their emotions;set and achieve positive goals;and make responsible decisions.

Statement of the problem
The main purpose of the study is to examine the aspect of Grade-12 students
in preparation for their tertiary education.
What is the impact of social and emotional aspects in the education of the
students?

How could social and emotional learning impact academics?

8. Hypothesis
Research has shown that school programs focused on social and
emotional development can significantly enhance student’s self-
perception,positive behaviors,school grades,etc.
Social and emotional awareness promotes positive development and
reduce problem with behaviors which this improve student’s academic
excellence.
It is vital for students because it teaches them crucial life skills,including
the ability to understand themselves,develop a positive self-image and
take responsibility for their actions.
9. Significance of the Study
The results of this research paper entitled “The Relevance of Social and Emotional Aspect
of Grade 12 Students in Preparation for their Tertiary Learning” can benefit the following:
Senior Highschool Students
It helps students gain awareness and consciousness to determine the different
factors to consider in order for them to be prepared before entering tertiary level of
education.
Senior Highschool Teachers
This study help teachers gain awareness about their essential roles as an important
foundation for student’s preparation before entering college.
Parents and guardians
This study can help parents and guardians to provide support and guidance on the
education and career path of the student.
10. Scope and Delimination of the Study
This research is conducted to assess the preparedness of Senior Highschool students
under academic strands for college,this will be done through the use of interviews,
surveys,questionnaires and by gathering qualitative information from sources such as
articles,websites,academic journals and books that are recognized as realible,accurate
and valuable sources of informations.Another purpose of the study is to determine the
different factors and indications to be considered for the student’s preparation upon
entering college.
11. Definition of terms
A term may have multiple or complicated meanings,to have a clear definition to understand the specific
word better,the researchers have presented below a list of terms that cn give the readers.
Social-relating to society or organization
Emotional-arousing or characterized by intense feelings.
Tertiary education-reffered to as third-level,third stage or post-secondary education,is the educational
level following the completion of secondary education.
Senior highschool-the last two years of the K-12 program which is the Grades 11 and 12.
Strand-a strand is a consistent thread running through a course offer respective of its subject content.
College-a place of higher education usually for people who have finished twelve years of schooling and
where they can obtain more advanced knowledge and get a degree to recognize this.
