5. Procedures
This assignment is to
be completed in two
parts:
1. The map will be assigned
as homework
2. Learning area and perimeter will
take place as a class activity
6.
7. 2. Next, they will measure the lengths and
widths (in feet) of all the rooms and record
the measurements on their maps.
8. 3. In class they will be
taught how to
calculate area and
perimeter using the
measurements of
the maps they
created.
.Each room on their map is
another equation to be solved.
9. Modifications
• For higher levels, children can learn conversions
by calculating the feet of the rooms into yards
and inches.
• The map can also be accomplished at school by
measuring the classroom, cafeteria, or parts of
the playground.
• Making a map at school will be a great example
of what is expected for their personal maps.
10. This is also a great opportunity to have
the children create their evacuation
plans.
