•George Herman Ruth, Jr. (Baltimore, February 6,
1895 - New York, August 16, 1948), better known
as Babe Ruth was an American baseball player. He
played a total of 22 seasons in Major League
Baseball between 1914 and 1935. It was introduced
into the National Baseball Hall of Fame and
Museum in 1936.
4. PERSONAL INFORMATION
• George's parents, Kate Schamberger-Ruth and George Herman Ruth
Sr., fathered eight children of whom only two survived infancy. As a
child, her parents attended a tavern and he was left alone to defend
himself, so decided to take him to seven years in an orphanage and
reformatory: St. Mary's Industrial School for Boys Catholic
missionary, where he visited rarely. In this place it was described as
an incorrigible for their unwillingness to accept the rules. He was a
priest named Mathias who assumed the role of father of Babe, and
channeled in life and baseball. From an early age he showed
qualities for this sport.
5. PERSONAL ARCHIVEMENTS
•Ruth joined the National Baseball Hall of Fame and
Museum on January 29, 1936 along with Ty Cobb,
Honus Wagner, Christy Mathewson and Walter
Johnson, in a ceremony in Cooperstown, New York.
Five members were the first to be introduced in the
Hall of Fame of the sport.
6. CURIOSITIES
• His beginnings were as a brilliant pitcher. Just 20 years old, Jack Dunn, owner of the
Baltimore Orioles, recognized his talent and hired him. The players saw him
appointed him as the new babe (baby) of Dunn Jack, the nickname he was. Just five
months after his arrival in this equipment was purchased by the Boston Red Sox
