- Grin itch is situated in London, 5.5 miles south-east of Charing Cross. Grin itch to me is a very built up area where there are many high rise buildings, famous buildings and tourist attractions for example the O2 Arena, the Em rates Air Line and Canary Warf. There are also many trade areas within Grin itch where many cranes and warehouses are situated. The contrast within the infrastructure is quite drastic as there are areas which look professional and upper class, however there are some areas which look run down and industrial.
- The Royal Naval College, Greenwich, was a Royal Navy training establishment between 1873 and 1998, providing courses for naval officers. It was the home of the Royal Navy's staff college, which provided advanced training for officers. The equivalent in the British Army was the Staff College, Camberley and the equivalent in the Royal Air Force was the RAF Staff College, Bracknell.
- In 1998, Trinity Buoy Wharf was an empty, derelict site. Now it is a thriving center for the arts and creative industries with a rare community of over 350 like minded people enjoying the unique riverside location. With careful regeneration, Trinity Buoy Wharf has kept its character whilst offering amenities such as studio and gallery space, a pier, boat club, school, rehearsal rooms and two dining options in the form of Driftwood Cafe and Fat Boys all American diner and 3 of the hugely sustainable Container City buildings.
- I really enjoyed visiting the Royal Naval College, as the buildings were interesting to look at with incredibly detailed architecture. The buildings were very traditional and symmetrical which made them visually appealing. The painted hall included many objects which were fascinating including candle holders which I have drawn. Visiting Trinity Buoy Wharf was a very different experience as it is much more industrial and less upper class. In my opinion it looks more modern than the Royal Naval College as there are funky buildings which again are interesting to look at due to the difference in architecture. As a whole I really enjoyed visiting Greenwich for many different reasons.
- The Corporation of Trinity House was originally a voluntary association of shipmen and mariners, and was granted a charter by Henry the 8th in 1514. Since then it has been the famous company responsible for buoys, lighthouses and lightships and pioneering the techniques involved. It was modernised and partially rebuilt between 1947 and 1966, and finally closed on 3rd December 1988 when it was purchased by the London Docklands Development Corporation. In 1996 Urban Space Management took the site on a long lease. It is now used as space for drawing schools and artists / designers studios.
- The Old Royal Naval College is the architectural centrepiece of Maritime Greenwich, a World Heritage Site in Greenwich, London. The site is managed by the Greenwich Foundation for the Old Royal Naval College, set up in July 1998 as a Registered Charity to "look after these magnificent buildings and their grounds for the benefit of the nation". The grounds and some of its buildings are open to visitors. The buildings were originally constructed to serve as the Royal Hospital for Seamen at Greenwich, now generally known as Greenwich Hospital, which was designed by Christopher Wren. The hospital closed in 1869. Between 1873 and 1998 it was the Royal Naval College, Greenwich.
- Greenwich has a rich and long history, with royal and maritime associations. Greenwich began as a Saxon village. It was called green wic (the word wic meant a port). So from the beginning it was a place where ships and boats were tied up. In 1838 Greenwich was connected to London by railway. As a result people flocked to live in Greenwich and it was engulfed by the growing city. In 1884 the meridian (line running north to south) through Greenwich Observatory was chosen as the international meridian from which longitude is calculated. Today Greenwich is a flourishing area of London and a popular tourist destination.
- Trinity Buoy Warf, in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, is the site of London's only lighthouse, by the confluence of the River Thames and Bow Creek, at Leamuth. It is situated on the opposite side of the River Thames to the O2 Arena.

- I have experimented with displaying the Royal Naval College in an interesting aesthetic way. I drew the dome on one of the buildings in the area with permanent marker onto a piece of acetate. This enabled me to insert detail into the line drawing for example tones using cross-hatching. I attached the piece of acetate to four pieces of cardboard which I then stuck onto the paper. To create an interesting background I used brown paper and grey card with newspaper to make it look aethetically pleasing. I cut out letters from a newspaper to clearly illustrate what the study was about.
- I further experimented looking at the textures and shapes within Trinity Buoy Wharf. I took an interesting picture of drain pipes against a brick wall when I visited the area, I tried to replicate this in my own way. The drain pipes were all originally black, however to make my study more visually interesting I decided to use a range of different coloured paper. For the bricks background I used a mixture of black and brown acrylic paint and a glue spreader to give me the brick shapes and effect, in my opinion this worked well as the colours were similar to the ones on site.
