2. Background
Nightclub and restaurants downtown
(Indianapolis) are guilty of throwing
out money through not recycling. This
place can dump hundreds of pounds of
aluminum and other recyclables into
the trash daily. A company like Waste
Management and Recycle Force have a
alternates landfill, other then throwing
the recyclables into the trash.
3. Recycling is a process that can be
easily incorporated within various
communities
Phase One:
set-up booths at malls and other
retail outlets, showcasing the
amount of waste
Also showing the amount of
revenue (money), jobs and foot
traffic at different times of the
year.
Steps to help Recycle
4. More Helpful Steps
Phase Two:
Work with governmental agencies.
Reduce the cost of recycling
Company like Recycle Force
Pay for the bin and have them pick it
up (no extra cost)
Phase Three:
Work with the traditional trash companies
Assist in the lobbying efforts of traditional
trash companies
By 2025, have a large shift toward recycling
5. Starting Point
Placing bin out to make them more accessible
to patrons
Make the bin noticeable and well-marked ,
so that everyone will know what each bin is
for.
Having a picture and a symbol to show what
each bin is for
“Solo” cup – plastic
“Beer Bottle”- glass
Responsibility shouldn't be up to just the
patrons, issue need to be addressed first and
foremost by business manger and the
employees. (MonroeCounty.gov)
6. Motivation to Recycle
Several states have programs where you can
get money for turning in cans and bottles.
Most cans and bottles are only worth 5 to 10
cents each, so you have to have a good
amount to turn in.
This could be applied to nightclubs with
patrons receiving a 5 to 10 cents discount to
patrons beverage cost.
By taking drinks back to the bartender and them
taking the discount off your tab.
At first this wouldn’t amount to anything but
over time this could be worth something.
7. More Motivations
If a special event at a bar, patrons could have
a card that showed their recycling amount.
Letting patrons have free or reduced cost
into the event
If a patrons come to the bar ever weekend
then the bar/ bartender would keep track of
recycling on a card and could compare to a
dollar or reward amount into being able to get
into the event.
8. Facts:
Average person produces 4.3 pounds of waste
daily and roughly a third of that is recyclable.
(U.S. EPA displayed on Duke Universities web site )
55% of the 220 million tons of trash produced
ends up dumped and buried and never sorted.
