Co/Pd bimetallic catalysts were prepared using sol gel method, with one using MgO support and the other unsupported, to synthesize carbon nanotubes (CNTs). Characterization of the particles through FTIR, XRD, and SEM showed that the supported catalyst produced CNTs with a higher yield, while the unsupported catalyst only produced carbon nano fibers (CNFs).

Abstract
In this paper the Co/Pd bi metallic catalyst have been prepared by sol gel method, one of
them without using support and the other one by using MgO support, the particles have
been characterized through FTIR, XRD, SEM and it has been concluded that the bi
metallic catalyst using the support will lead to production of CNT( Carbon Nano Tube)
with the higher yield, while the unsupported catalyst just leads to the production of CNF (
Carbon Nano Fibers)

Use of conventional sources of energy to generate electricity is increasing rapidly due to growing energy demands. This is a major cause of pollution as well and also is an environmental concern for future. Considering this, there is lot of R&D going on in the field of alternate energy sources with recent advancements in technology. One of the most recent advancement is the perovskite solar technology in the photovoltaics industry. The power conversion efficiency of perovskite solar cells has been improved from 9.7 to 20.1% within 4 years which is the fastest advancement ever in the photovoltaic industry. Such a high photovoltaic performance can be attributed to optically high absorption characteristics of the hybrid lead perovskite materials. In this review, different perovskite materials are breifly discussed along with the fundamental details of the hybrid lead halide perovskite materials. The fabrication techniques, stability, device structure and the chemistry of the perovskite structure are also briefly described aiming for a better understanding of these materials and thus highly efficient perovskite solar cell devices. The main focus of this resarch is to understand possible methods to reduce toxicity due to lead and to improve Perovskite stability.

Perovskite-based PV have triggered widespread interest in the scientific community because these materials offer the attractive combinations of low cost and theoretically high efficiency. However, several challenges must be overcome for these relatively new PV materials. Among the many important challenges, one is the choice of materials to be used in thin film PV devices.. Based on fundamental principles of solar photovoltaics, this problem focuses on two aspects of the perovskite system: 1) Based on a planar p-i-n device structure, a potential list of p- and n-type charge collecting layers as well as the conductive contacts that could be used with a promising perovskite absorber material was identified, and a proper justification for the selection of each material in the device was given. 2) Three theoretical p-i-n type solar cells were made with the chosen materials and appropriate conductive contacts.

Despite extensive efforts and research put in the field, conventional energy storage devices (ESDs) such as various supercapacitors and batteries are near their performance limit in terms of power densities, energy densities, capacitance, charge retention, and cyclic stability. This is primarily due to limiting intrinsic properties of the electrode materials such as average surface area and poor porosity, combined with sluggish redox kinetics due to lack of electrode functionality. So, the need of the hour is to explore new materials for efficient storage of the energy. Among these new materials, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) can serve as potential candidates because they have high specific surface area, high porosity with tuneable morphology and hence tuneable pore size, functionality linking to active metal sites and ligands. However, there remains a gap in fully utilising MOFs in energy storage applications commercially. Due to the highly porous nature of MOFs, their structural stability is compromised especially in aqueous electrolytes. To utilize the maximum potential of MOFs as electrode materials, it is of utmost importance to address poor structural integrity and low intrinsic conductivity of MOFs. In this work, it has been tried to overcome the above-mentioned drawbacks of MOFs by using additives of conductive nature such as graphene nanoplatelets (GNP). Hydrothermal approach was used to synthesize hybrid MOF by controlling molar ratio of Nickel and Cobalt in combination with different organic ligands. As a battery-type supercapacitor electrode material, the 2:1 Ni/Co hybrid MOF with 40mg GNP, using terephthalic acid as ligand, delivered a high specific capacity of 658.8 C·g−1 at the current density of 1 A·g−1. Similarly, the 1:2 Ni/Co hybrid MOF, using 2-MethylImidazole as ligand, delivered a high specific capacity of 642.4 C·g−1 at the current density of 1 A·g−1. Moreover, breakthrough results were obtained by optimizing synthesis with in-situ deposition on nickel foam of 2:1 Ni/Co (with 40mg GNP) hybrid MOF, which produced an impressive specific capacity of 1264 C·g−1 at 1 A/g, surpassing, to the best of our knowledge, most of the previously reported MOF based electrode materials. This work not only develops a high-performance electrode material of supercapacitor, but being the first of its kind in Pakistan, also provides the foundation of systematic research for the electrochemical properties of multi-metal MOFs.

Nanotechnology largely affects a more extensive scope of biotechnological, pharmacological and unadulterated innovative applications. In this paper we would be covering the use of nanotechnology in the production as well as optimisation of biogas. This paper clearly shows the potential and relationship between the both – biogas production and nanotechnology via various feedstock characterisation studies which was done during this paper. The aim of this paper is to showcase how these both technologies complement each other and how nanotechnology is applied in feedstock and convert it to biogas. Our study shows how nanotechnology is applied on pressmud and gas production is enhanced at laboratory level. The digestion of pressmud with nanomaterials were studied. Our study clearly indicates that the biogas production can surely be enhanced in case of treating pressmud by using magnetite nanoparticles which gives higher methane yields compared to normal digestion without nanoparticles. This study not only confirms the enhanced biogas generation from pressmud but also confirms that on other biodegradable material the same principle can be applied and gas production can be enhanced. Our study surely will be an important tool for implementing of nanotechnology in biogas research and enhanced production wherever the press mud is available. In the present work, Graphene oxide (GO) was prepared using improved modified Hummer’s method. Reduced Graphene oxide (rGO) is synthesized by cow urine extract using sonication and refluxing process. Tin Oxide quantum dots were synthesized using wet chemical method. RGO/SnO2 based pellets were prepared using hydraulic press. These pellets were characterized for glucose. Structural and optical characterization of GO, rGO and SnO2 quantum dots was performed using XRD, UV-visible and FTIR. The sensors show good response towards glucose.

In today’s world, the applications of nanotechnology and nanomaterials are attracting interest in a wide variety of study domains because of their appealing qualities. The use of nanotechnology and nanomaterials in biodiesel processing and manufacturing is a focus of research globally. For accelerating the progress and development of biodiesel production, more focus is being given to the application of advanced nanotechnology for maximum yield in low cost. Hence, this paper will discuss the utilization of numerous nanomaterials/nanocatalysts for biodiesel synthesis from multiple feedstocks. This study will also focus on nanomaterials’ applications in algae cultivation and lipid extraction. Furthermore, the current study will comprehensively overview the nanoadditives blended biodiesel in diesel engines and the significant challenges and future opportunities. Moreover, this paper will also focus on human and environmental safety concerns of nanotechnology-based large-scale biodiesel production. Hence, this review will provide perception for future manufacturers, researchers, and academicians into the extent of research in nanotechnology and nanomaterials assisted biodiesel production and its efficiency enhancement.

Objective(s): This paper describes a selective and sensitive biosensor based on the dissolution and aggregation of aptamer wrapped single-walled carbon nanotubes. We report on the direct detection of aptamer–cocaine interactions, namely between a DNA aptamer and cocaine molecules based on near-infrared absorption at λ807. Materials and Methods: First a DNA aptamer recognizing cocaine was non-covalently immobilized on the surface of single walled carbon nanotubes and consequently dissolution of SWNTs was occurred. Vis-NIR absorption (A807nm) of dispersed, soluble aptamer-SWNTs hybrid, before and after incubation with cocaine was measured using a CECIL9000 spectrophotometer. Results: This carbon nanotube setup enabled the reliable monitoring of the interaction of cocaine with its cognate aptamer by aggregation of SWNTs in the presence of cocaine. Disscusion: This assay system provides a mean for the label-free, concentration-dependent, and selective detection of cocaine with an observed detection limit of 49.5 nM.

Abstract of Emerging Trends in Scientific Research, 2014, Vol.1 DOI: 10.18488/journal.1002/2014.1/1002.1 1st International Conference on Emerging Trends in Scientific Research 15-16 March, 2014 Pearl International Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Conference Website: www.pakrdw.com 89 Paper ID: 366/14/1 st ICETSR Comparison of Supported and Unsupported Co/Pd Nano Particles Catalysts to Synthesize CNT Ghazaleh Allaedini1 --- Siti Masrinda2 --- Zahira Yaakob3 Abstract In this paper the Co/Pd bi metallic catalyst have been prepared by sol gel method, one of them without using support and the other one by using MgO support, the particles have been characterized through FTIR, XRD, SEM and it has been concluded that the bi metallic catalyst using the support will lead to production of CNT( Carbon Nano Tube) with the higher yield, while the unsupported catalyst just leads to the production of CNF ( Carbon Nano Fibers)
