3. ¿Qué pasa con el modelo tradicional?
• Graves desventajas de acceso restrictivo

• El aumento del costo de suscripciones
• La transferencia de los derechos de autor
4. ¿Qué significa acceso abierto a la
investigación científica?
• Libremente disponibles a través del Internet
• Autor retiene los derechos de autor
• Redistribución y la reutilización –
Creative Commons
• Permanentemente archivados en un repositorio reconocido
internacionalmente (por ejemplo PubMed Central)
10. Tipos de Membresia

Why do we have a problem with this? The intellectual effort that goes into a research article comes from the research community (authors, peer reviewers, academic editors) so why should the published article be under the absolute control of a publisher that plays a limited role at the end of the process? Well, firstly and most importantly, it dramatically limits the access to this critical information (the results of academic research) to lots of important groups… This slows down the development of our knowledge about our world and about ourselves, and is also unfair Secondly, it’s old fashioned, as we have seen, and doesn’t fit the world we live in now.. Subscription-based access to research is a legacy of print-based economics – it makes no sense in an online environment

- Our primary customers are authors ( i.e. researchers), we are not selling subscriptions to the librarians, we work directly with the authors so…CLICK Speed, peer review, look up more, easy process, close correspondence. We also..CLICK monitor author satisfaction closely. We want to find out why they want to submit: Recommended by a colleague Previous good experience publishing in the journal Read a paper in one of our journals Its crucial to us to keep them happy, if they have a bad experience they wont come back and submissions would not go up. Very different to selling subscriptions that you renew once a year, very little customer service or contact, we have to work closely with every single researcher wanting to submit. Now I cant forget to mention the librarians! They are the hub – they know there researcher and what they want, where they want to publish. Absolutely key in making it work – I will chat about Membership shortly, which will highlight this So more direct – rather than satisfying the intermediary, we have to satisfy the consumer of the service We have to keep attracting authors, keep servicing them well and stay in front - We cant look at this without clearing up the myths.
