CI NY is Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)
compliant and abides by the “primary
source verification” rule and not the
“simultaneous notice” rule. By doing
additional inquiries when indicated, CI goes
to the primary source of the data and thus
complies with the FCRA Primary Source
Verification rule. CI utilizes “primary
source verification” for all its inquiries.

Q. What is the cost savings?
A. On average, clients save 30% or more using CI NY by
avoiding third party fees that are added when running an
OCA.
Q. Are there third party fees involved when using CI NY?
A. There are no third party fees when running CI NY. CI NY
will indicate if further research is needed.
Q. Do you need to run additional criminal searches when
using CI NY?
A. Yes, but only when CI NY reveals a hit on the subject, then
CI will do a Primary Source Verification to obtain the most up-to-
date court disposition data. CI relays those results to
you. CI only delivers misdemeanor and felony convictions to
our clients. Any violations or dismissed cases do not get
reported.

Q. Will the subject's SSN be identified when booked? Primary
Source Verification?
A. Most of the time the subject’s SSN is included in CI NY results,
thus leading to a positive identification before doing any additional
research. However, it does depend on the jail and there are very few
times a SSN may not be included. Most booking records contain
SSNs, other identifiers such as name, date of birth and address are
also available and used when doing a Primary Source Verification.
Q. What if the subject lived outside of NY in the past 10 years?
A. We recommend to all of our clients do a thorough background
investigation. If the subject has lived outside of NY, CI recommends
that you run the appropriate counties based upon the subject’s
address history as revealed by the Origin inquiry. CI will determine the
correct jurisdictions to be run based upon the client’s policy and Origin
inquiry results.
Q. Does CI NY reveal criminal data outside of NYS?
A. CI NY is an inquiry exclusively covering New York State.

A. The average turnaround time for CI NY is less than one business
day.

A. Yes
Q. How is CI NY proprietary to Commercial Investigations?
A. CI is the only background screening company who can offer CI NY
to their clients by that name and with CI’s proprietary research tiers.
