8. WHAT DOES INTERACTIVITY MEAN?
Interactivity is a process that will
help you to actively engage with
the course
Interactivity helps you reflect on
the information and to grasp the
knowledge being taught
It helps grab the learners
attention
It helps the learners to retain the
complete information
Easy knowledge transfer
Can be used as an evaluation
method - both formative and
summative

10. CRITERIONS OF INTERACTIVITY
The learners should face
some type of challenge
Interactivities should bind to
take decisions
They are allowed to explore
They are allowed to make
mistakes without being
punished
They must have fun
The placement should be
apt to reduce confusion

15. HOW MUCH INTERACTIVITY IS NEEDED?
It is important to use interactions only when and
where they are beneficial to the learning experience.
If an interaction does not fit well, do not include it.

17. LEVELS OF INTERACTION
Can be 4 levels of interactions:
Passive
Limited Interaction
Complex Interaction
Real-Time Interaction
18. PASSIVE
When learners are
Novice or they
receiver of the
information
Introductory
interactions like
simple navigations,
roll-overs, on-clicks
etc.
19. LIMITED INTERACTION
The learners make simple
responses to instructional
cues
Adds a component of
scenario based Multiple
choice questions
Simulation can exist like
Watch simulations
Some animations where
the learners has to explore
20. COMPLEX INTERACTION
The learners can
make multiple or
varied answers.
Complex simulation
like: Watch-Try-Do
Scenario based
learning
Branching Assessment
learning
21. REAL-TIME INTERACTIONS
The learner is engaged in real situation where it
exactly reflects the work situation
Real time learning and assessment occurs

31. CONCLUSION
There is an unrealized potential in
the use of interactivities.
Interactivities boost learning
People learns faster from it
They help learners to apply on
their job
Unlike simple instructions, which
pushes information into your head,
interactivities pulls you into the
instruction and engages you.

Followed by its conclusion
Training may sometimes become boring or even less productive. E learning can be even worse, because the learner himself looks to the topics and try to understand without any instructor. Basically, those online courses are more effective which provide plentiful opportunities to learner to interact with the content. Many of them assume as more interactive training means more animations resulting in more learning. It can be said that up to some extent the statement is correct, but you need to ensure that how much of interactivity is needed and what level of interactivity should be there so that the learners can be benefited.
Many of the content creators think to avoid interactivities in the e-learning courses. But why so… generally because of the so called myths that surrounds the topics. The mistaken belief that creating interactivity is too complex and too time consuming. We at CommLab India design interactivities as per the content.
Now let us have a look on some Myths of Interactivities:
Myth 1: Interactivity makes course too long:
Imagine a course without any interactivity. Are you able to connect with the content. Do you understand the importance of a particular topic. I guess, No? It is not necessary that one can’t learn from an information dump or a lecture format. But the material itself should be highly motivated to stay focused on the main content.
In e-learning courses, interactivity not only engages the learners but also creates to learn and explore more.
Here in CommLab India we accommodate both kinds of learners.
Myth 2:Interactivity is the Greek word for “multiple-choice”
Many of us believe that interactivity means multiple select or assessment. It is a misconception among many of them. But actually interactivity is to engage learners and get them processes.
Myth 3:Interactive E-learning courses are too costly
It’s a common myth that to create interactive course is too costly. If your goal is to make learning happen then spending time to create interactivities is the best investment you can make.
Read the slide. After reading the slide read the text below:
In CommLab India we take special care on the strategies to design interactivities. For example, here is the screenshot of one of our course, in that the client required that after taking this course the learners should immediately apply to their respected job. In this case we introduced test your knowledge in branching form. That strategy was like very easy knowledge transfer.
Read the slide then read the below text:
As in CommLab India, we ensure that the learner should get all the benefits from the interactivities. Either they are bound to take the decisions or they have to learn the particular topic in a easy manner. In one of our courses, all the topics were related to legal metrologies and in that the client want a highly interactive course. We decided to create stories and themes so that the learner can easily grasp the knowledge as will he will not feel bored during the course. Here is the screenshot of the same course.
Here are few screenshot of our courses, where we ensure to fulfill all the criterions of interactivities. The first screenshot refer to the animation. Here we showed the objectives with their relevant image one-by-one.
There are many courses which are replica of books presented in the form of e-learning course. They can be shortly called as page turners.
Engaging interactions are necessary because they are more likely keep learners interested and mentally simulated during the course.
It is ideal for any kind of task whether it is procedural or process based, so that the learner can practice the actual task in the virtual environment, which can increase the productivity of the learner.
Interactivities also help the helps to process the information more in-depth, because they are bound to take decisions and after every unit there is an internal assessment which makes them think, resulting in an easy knowledge transfer.
On a lighter mode, it never hurts to make the experience fun.

Here is an example of wrong placement of interactivity. We took this example from the internet.
It is really important to be aware of levels of interactions because it can help you to select a better interaction strategy based on the type knowledge you are trying to teach. Basically there are 4 levels of interaction: simple, limited, complex and real-time interactions.
Let us discuss this one-by-one.
In this level, learners are the receiver of information. The learner may simply interact by using click on tabs, or just watching simple animation or even just navigating from one page to another. These kind of interactions are good when there is information transfer like changes in company policies or some historical data or we can say that nice to know concepts.
Here is one example screenshot from our course, where the historical data is presented in the form of click-on-images.
In this interaction, the learners can make simples responses. In passive level, learner can respond to multiple choice questions but here in this level they can respond to scenario based multiple questions or match the columns. Even watch simulations also comes under limited interaction where learners don’t need to try and act. Some simple animations can also be a part of limited interaction where the leaner has to explore themselves.
Complex interactions include complex simulation where the learner must enter actual data in to the fields and experience the results of any errors or faults . The complex interaction also include the branching assessment where the learners experience some difficulty of incorrect response.
Here the learner is engaged in the interaction where the situation is exactly same as the real one. Real time learning and assessment occurs.
These are some commonly used but effective interactivities. Like click on’s, hot-spots, true or false scenarios, avatars. etc.
Here is one example from our course. In that the learner has to click the images and learn.
This screenshot is taken from one of our product training course, where the learners has to use the product in their job. So they should know each and every part of the product and its usage. So we opt for hotspot option, when the learners has to click the hotspot, they will know about the part as well as its usage.
True or false is commonly used interactivity to assess the learner.
Avatars are the On screen characters who help, guide the learning process during an e-learning course.
Scenario based courses are highly engaging and interactive. It makes the learner to take actively part in the course. The learner gets feedback for his/her response for each scenario.
In CommLab India we create scenarios based on the learner persona designed for the particular project. We also use all the information available (through the research conducted in the analysis phases) to us about their work environment.
Here are some bad examples of interactivities which needs to be avoided while creating.
