2. This portfolio contains a collection of projects, which best represent the ideas, processes and
execution of some my most recent and past works to date.
I am fascinated by the connection and relationship between materials, construction, objects and
function. My training in Furniture and Product design, Contemporary Arts and my experience in
the workplace, combine into explorative works where my starting point is based on functional
reasoning, but my application and realisation can become much more conceptual.

4. The Heavy series looks at using common building
materials and simple manufacturing techniques to
create domesticated lighting solutions, each design
looks at using simple materials that can be found in
most local hardware stores.
Each component must fit certain criteria in order for
it to be chosen. Criteria is ultimately chosen by the
intended design, bearing in mind that the design will
also be effected by the choice of its components.
Small, heavy components are needed for weight and
stability, whilst lighter and taller components are
needed for height and reach.
Once these fundamental characteristics are estab-
lished, informed decisions can be made for the design
and construction of each piece.

Redefining Paper - What is the potential of a single
sheet of paper
Our initial interpretation of the brief was the
importance for the paper’s original characteristics to
remain in the finished piece, aiming to do only what
was necessary to transform the paper.
We liked the idea of creating a timepiece, the
opportunity to create an object with such functional
purpose fit the narrative of the project.

Kairos, literally “the right or opportune moment”,
relates specifically to metaphysical or Divine time. In theology,
Kairos is qualitative, as opposed to quantitative.

10. “This is Ercol” looks at creating a series of bespoke
furniture and product through the relationship and ex-
perimentation of materials and form, using original Er-
col components which have been rejected or have be-
come obsolete. The project makes good use of these
redundant parts, offering a fresh and alternative outlet
for creative ideas.
Each piece is made up from existing Ercol component
pieces, analysed for their strengths, weaknesses
and possible relationship with other components. I see
the selection process for the components much like
dry-stone walling; finding a place of best fit.

12. “Giraffe” is a sculptural timber storage solution for the
home, providing a simple area for books ornaments
and the odd TV remote to rest.
The Giraffe is designed to be manufactured in indus-
trial factories, knock down fittings like flush joints are
used to make transport, storage and assembly as quick
and easy as possible.

14. Influenced by the strictly functional traits of Shaker
furniture “Seat Hangar” works as a temporary
dressing and offloading space for personal clothing
items suitable for both hallway and bedroom.
The 10mm bar forms the under frame structure, hang-
ing space and back rest of the chair,
completing a fairly elaborate, but subtle piece.

for the 150th anniversary of Leeds Corn Exchange.
The brief was to create a “Gin Palace” to be assembled
onsite using appropriate materials for the styling.
