1. I was introduced to the world of film and television in 2013 during my media
course. Since then it is all I have wanted to do. I have been working seriously on
moving image productions for 2 years now – finishing college; freelance, for my
own pleasure and for clients.
I am most interested in becoming a sound designer for in the media industry
specifically television and film. I enjoy being creative with sound by either
remastering existing sound - for example the clockworks of a revolver for a
western film or spending hours on sound software creating interesting sounds
for the engines of an alien space ships in a sci-fi film. I hope one day to be a
director of sound design for Film Company.
I enjoy independent films that are character driven and have real atmosphere
like Lost River (Ryan Gosling, 2014) and Under the Skin (Jonathan Glazer, 2014).
I am also at home watching more mainstream film and TV, along side playing
video games and going to music concerts.
I have built up experience through a BFI academy, which I attended in October
2014. I took part in master classes for all roles in film production. It is here I
discovered sound recording and sound design and met peers my age with the
same mind-set and interests as me. Through the BFI academy I nit only
discovered my specialist interest but learnt about the bigger picture and scale of
the industry, the filming process and the industry expectations.
After the BFI experience I began to get involved with more short films, I learned
to adapted myself to others creative ideas and meet deadlines for other people.
In the last 5 months I have worked on 3 other short films as a sound designer
and sound recorder and developed a few of my own films. This has helped me
learn more from my mistakes and what to do and what not do in the next
projects. I have met great people along the way.
.
I enjoy traveling a lot so much so I am planning traveling in a gap year
throughout the next year, I have decided to this because I have interests in
culture, socializing and discovery I hope to discover more with this trip through
Asia into what I want more from life.
During the summer of 2014 I finished my AS level in psychology, then I
transferred and forwent carrying on for a A-level in order to pursue my passion,
I went with my gut to learn more about a career path I was actually going to head
down. I am pleased with my choice as I learned ten fold about the film industry
and have picked up relevant skills that I will use in this industry.
I am currently working with kids in my local primary village school before and
after school and high levels of creative fun that comes with it and the stress,
however it has taught me a lot about organisation and planning to keep things a
float and in control I hope to apply those skills in a work place and in further
education.
