This document summarizes key trends in internet and technology evolution from 2000 to 2011. It outlines four stages: broadband adoption increased from 5% to 65% of homes, mobile phone ownership rose from 53% to 85% of adults, social networks grew exponentially with 500 million users today, and mobile apps saw major growth with 350,000 available on the App Store and 29% of mobile users downloading apps. It then discusses using mobile technology for wayfinding apps in large museums like the Smithsonian to address visitor orientation challenges.
