2013 - 2015 Graduate Geologist with Newcrest Mining Limited.
I joined Newcrest Mining Limited (NML) as graduate geologist under the NML Graduate
Development Program (GDP). As per the NML GDP Requirement, I have to rotate through 6
geology sections of the Mining Department; Ore Grade Control (Mine Geology), Mine
Geotechnical Projects, Mine Geotechnical Operation, Mine Geothermal Operation, Mine
Geothermal Resource, and Resource Geology. So far I have rotated through the Mine Geology,
Geotechnical Project s, Mine Geothermal and Resource Geology Sections. I worked 6 months in
each of the sections and experiences/skills acquired are outlined below:
 Mine Geology – Ore Mark Up, Stockpile Grab Sampling, Ore Spotting, Blast Hole
Sampling, Sample Probe Hole Designing, QAQC report, and Data Build. Software used
were Aquire, Mine Sight and MapInfo.
 Geotechnical Project – Core Logging, Face Mapping, Data entry using excel spreadsheet
and uploading of those data into aquire data base. This data are later imported from
aquire to Mine sight software for analysis and interpretation. Also in this section, I
gained experience in Acoustic Televiewer (ATV) down hole survey together with the
analysis of its data in well cad software.
 Geotechnical Operation – In this section, I had hands on experience on geotech
monitoring which includes; prism installation to detect surface ground movement,
vibrating wire piezometer (VWP) installation to measure subsurface water pressure and
temperature, extensometer installation to measure surface movement and inclinometer
installation to monitor subsurface movement. Those monitoring equipment are then
link to our database via the local network. I also developed the skill to analyze
monitoring data through the use of Autoslope and inclinalysis software. Also in this
section, I developed skill in doing horizontal drill hole design and prism installation
design in Mine Sight. Geotechnical Risks and Hazard Management is another skill
developed in this section.
 Mine Geothermal Operation – Geothermal Risks and Hazard Management includes;
temperature monitoring in probe holes and shovel dig face. Monitoring and

Management of steam relief wells which are aimed at depressurizing Lihir Kapit Ore
Boby for safe mining in the future. Designing of probe holes drilling and using of surfer
software to create geodomain.
 Resource Geology – Data validation using excel spreadsheet and core logging.
In all the above sections, I got involved in reviewing standard operating procedures (SOP),
creating Job Safety Analysis and ensuring compliancy with standards.

engineers, mine operation crew, surveyors, chemists and my group members.
