If from the beginning of your speech, you evoke strong
emotion from the audience, you have their attention.
These strong emotions include fear, pain, anger and in
the case of comedy, happiness.
If they laugh at your jokes, they agree with you.

To talk funny often means you have to open up and share
personal stories with your audience. E.g: making fun of
yourself, sharing what you truly think about XYZ
This puts you in a vulnerable position. It can be terrifying.
But if you're able to make them laugh, you know they're

next statement.
