2. - Baby Driver is an action/thriller film directed by Edgar Wright, who
also directed films such as Shaun of the dead, Hot Fuzz and Scott
Pilgrim vs the world.
- The films main theme is choice for example Baby has to make a
choice on whether he should continue in the line of work he is in or
get out, should he give himself into the police and leave Debora or
not? Should Doc choose to help Baby out of the situation or leave
him on his own? This them continues throughout the movie every
character is faced with difficult choices.
- The soundtrack is the main feature of the film, not only does it fit in
with every beat, pace and time with the film, the song also fits to
describe the characters situation, and varies depending on what the
character is doing. For example with the car chase scenes they
always use fast paced music with a good beat to fit the scene, when
Baby is on a date the music turns classical showing two very different
worlds Baby is living in.
- The perfect scene of the film needs to follow four narrative
structures and there is only one scene that achieves this although
the other scenes are done masterfully it doesn't’t have all four
narratives. The scene which does achieve this is the scene where
Baby has turned to Doc for help and Doc has to make a choice, as
well as being under pressure.
- The films plot is about Baby, a getaway driver that helps pull of
heists and him trying to get out of the work when he meets Debora
who he falls in love with and eventually wants to runaway with.
However he had to pull off one last job that goes horribly wrong.
3. Scenes to talk about
Car chase 1 Car chase 2 Group diner scene
Foot chase Diner confrontation Docs decision ( the Perfect scene)
4. The perfect scene
- I have chosen my focus of my video to be on the scene
where Baby comes to Doc for help and Doc must make
a choice.
- I have chosen this scene because it perfectly conveys
the films main theme: choice. It also includes all four
narrative points in the scene as well.
- I plan to talk about why I have chosen this scene to be
my perfect scene throughout the film as well as do
comparisons between my other chosen scenes as well.
- I will talk about the four narratives in the scene as well
as the theme of choice. If I have time I will also talk
about the soundtrack of the film and how well it’s
done.
- The four narratives of the scene areTheme, choice,
twist and time
5. Soundtrack
- Baby Driver’s soundtrack is one of the best examples of music used in
film. At the beginning of the film you have Baby walking down the
street to get coffee and he’s listening to music while doing so.You can
see as he’s walking down the street the lyrics of the song can be seen
on walls, trees, lampposts, wherever Baby is walking. It’s done quite
subtly so if you aren’t paying attention then you would probably miss
it.
- The soundtrack used for the chase scenes is done so perfectly that
every move or beat the character does it fits perfectly with the song,
for example when they’re shooting the guns it fits perfectly in time
with the beat and rhythm of the song. It makes the action sequences
more exciting to watch when everything is fit in so perfectly and in
time with each other.
- Not only does the Music fit into what the character does it also refers
to the situation or how the character feels for example, when Baby is
driving the crew to the diner the song lyrics are “Got nowhere to run to
Baby, nowhere to hide” which applies exactly to Baby’s situation as
he’s trapped with the bad people and like the lyrics say he has nowhere
to run and nowhere to hide.
