2. What is culture?
The digital age is the era of information technology that
transformed society and economy since the 1970s.It began with
the invention of the personal computer and the internet, which
enabled faster and easier communication and data
processing. It also spawned new industries, products and services,
such as e-commerce, social media, cloud computing and artificial
intelligence. It created new opportunities and challenges for
individuals, businesses and governments, such as privacy,
security, education and innovation. It changed the way people
interact, learn, work, and entertain, creating virtual and augmented
realities, online communities and digital cultures. It is an ongoing
revolution that continues to shape the future of humanity and the
planet, with emerging technologies, such as
biotechnology, nanotechnology, and quantum computing.
What is the digital age?
Due to the brief being about culture in the digital age to make sure that I had followed the brief I
needed to understand what culture and the digital age was therefore I did some research to understand
it more thoroughly in order to make sure my product sticks to the brief and please the client.

PEOPLE
âą INFLUENCING
6. âą The âPass-out Challengeâ also known as the âChoking Gameâ
involves a person cutting off their oxygen on purpose trying to
get euphoria but usually just losing consciousness.
8. My idea is to create a documentary that highlights the impact that social media and technology has on a person and the impact it
can have. I chose to do this when I found out that Almost a quarter of young people are so dependent on their smartphones that
it becomes like an addiction, suggests research by psychiatrists. The study, from King's College London, says such addictive
behavior means that people become "panicky" or "upset" if they are denied constant access
The Grip
My idea for the grip was to showcase how much of a grip that the digital age has on society and how it impacts our everyday
lives from the way we are told to think to the way in which we present ourselves.
Digital deaths
My idea for digital deaths was to highlight how trends made popular and often endorsed by celebrities or due to the high
popularity rate can become dangerous quickly and even become deadly if things go wrong and sometimes even if they go right.
Surgically attached
My idea for surgically attached was to show how young people feel as though they can't live without their phones and how
sometimes social media can take over and control what they do say and how they act.
What I have chosen to do
I have chosen to go with the concept of surgically attached as it is more likely to be one that the target audience identifies with as
interviewees will be of that age along with the theme being aimed at young people. Although I have chosen the concept of
surgically attached, I may also include elements of the grip to link the younger age demographic and the older as the world
evolves and changes and they become the generation of the future.

can reveal and conceal a lot about the documentary. It should be intriguing to engage the target audience and catch
their eye when scrolling through what to watch. For my cover photo I am going to show the audience a darker side
with a more gruesome cover photo which will hopefully reflect how bad the addiction to technology is. With this
cover photo I am also aiming to engage my target audience as though research the target audience of 16â24-year-
olds enjoy the genre again to engage the correct audience.
11. Wording Analysis
Surgically attached Digitally Devoted Britain
For my documentary I wanted a title that would not only stand out but capture the audience's attention. I got the
phrase surgically attached from my grandparents who say to me that I am always on my phone it might as well be
surgically attached to my hand as I never go anywhere without it and as I fall into the target age audience, I knew
this had to be included in the title as if I get told it a lot then this may be something that resonates the intended
target audience. As I am from Britain, I wanted to make a documentary that was purely focused on British culture
as that was a part of the brief. I also did this as even though I am creating a documentary with a theme that may
attract a wide range of audiences as the BBC and subsequently BBC three charge a licensing fee to watch their
programs it means they are restricted in what they can produce.one of these rules is that they can't aim to attract a
mainstream audience therefore by focusing my documentary on Britain and young people it narrows the potential
viewing audience which will then allow me to stay within the rules of BBC making something that not only the
client can use but a product the client is happy with. As surgically attached by itself may make the audience believe
that it is a medical documentary, I knew that I had to include a sub-clause to reinforce the digital theme of the
documentary. As the documentary will talk about the addiction young people have to their phones and
subsequently social media, I wanted to include this in the title. However, I also wanted to make the documentary
title catchy therefore I wanted to use alliteration however I couldnât think of an a-word that linked to technology, so
I used a digital thesaurus to find a synonym for addiction when I came across devoted which fit in perfectly with
the theme of my documentary which left me with :SURGICALLY ATTACHED DIGITALLY DEVOTED BRITAIN.

Overall analysis
Title cards are clips of stylized text that you can
add to the beginning or end of your project or
between the clips within the project. Title cards
aim to keep the audience engaged as a break
within the opening minutes to allow the
audience to digest what they are seeing and
hearing.as the first few minutes should grip you
this pause also allows for audiences to determine
if they want to carry on watching.
For my title card I want it to link to the cover photo but not be exactly the
same giving the audience some further insight into what the documentary
is about. I have noticed in many other BBC documentaries that a dark
background is a common convention therefore I will keep the background
dark for my title card allowing the photographs used to pop like the "FRESH
COPS" logo does.

Penshaw
Monument
For filming and photography locations for the documentary I have decided to keep them to a reduced few this is
to not confuse the audience by having to many locations crammed into 10-15minutes, but it also allows me to
film freely as I have access to both these locations at practically anytime, I want. As I am filming some shots in
my own home it means that there are no restrictions meaning I can film anything I want to with any equipment
and it is okay however when filming at Penshaw Monument as I donât have public liability insurance it means
that I can't film with a tri-pod and I have to make sure that members of the public are not in frame and if they
are they need to be far enough away that they aren't recognisable.
19. LUKAS LION - Digital Age-Video analysis
"Storyteller. Poet. Rebel. LUKAS LION is a musician based in the Midlands, UK. His music is focused
on exposing corruption within society, as well as uplifting and empowering humanity. His lyrics invite the
listener to question and expand their perceptions, to look inside and connect with the deepest part of
themselves, awakening the lion within."
The music video uses a range of different expressionistic concepts and ideas to convey the grip that
technology has on the lives of young people in the 21st century combined with an engaging and dynamic
audio track and lyrics such as "Why is everything connected to computers?" and "Smart watch, smart
phone, smart city, smart home" reinforcing the impact that the digital age has had on the world. Within
the video the artist asks questions to his audience making them question the impact of technology and
how much they have been affected I want to include this within my product as not only will it aim to
engage the audience further, but it will also aim to cause and start up conversations on how much impact
technology has.
20.
21. INSPIRATION PHOTOS ANALYSIS
The inspiration photos I have collected and am going to use to influence my
ideas when creating my documentary focuses on the power technology can
have over a person sometimes consuming them until they can't recognise
themselves. It will not only focus on technology as a whole but focusing on
social media the good and more importantly the bad side of technology.
From my research when finding inspiration pictures linking to technology a
common theme and colour is blue therefore I will aim to include different
shades of blue throughout the documentary to keep an underlying theme of
technology even if the audience donât recognise it. Blue also has
connotations of calmness and relaxation. It is often described as peaceful,
tranquil, secure, and orderly. Blue is seen as a sign of stability and reliability.
This not only reinforces the casual theme of my documentary but suggests to
the audience that it is trustworthy, and everything said (facts) is true.to make
sure the documentary is not a false sense of security for the audience all of
the facts will be fact checked and confirmed on multiple reliable sources.

What is the impact of technology on young people's lives?
[Introduction]
Technology has taken over the world, and its impact on young people's lives is both visible and subtle. Today we take a closer look at how technology
affects young people, their relationships, well-being, education, and social lives.
[Part 1 - Relationships]
Technology has brought the world closer together, but at the same time, it has created a rift in relationships. Social mediahas made it easy for young
people to connect with others around the world, but sometimes it comes at the expense of the relationships they have offline. Our film will show the
ways in which technology has changed the meaning of relationships for many young people.
[Part 2 - Well-being]
The excessive use of technology is linked to various mental health issues in young people. The constant exposure to social media can lead to feelings of
anxiety, depression, loneliness, and FOMO. On the other hand, technology has also helped in improving the mental health of young people. Our film
will showcase how technology can be used positively to improve young people's well-being.
[Part 3 - Education]
Education has been revolutionized by technology, with online learning becoming the norm. It has made education accessible tomore people, but it has
also put pressure on young people to keep up with technology. Young people today also face the challenge of distinguishing between credible and
unreliable sources of information. Our film will highlight the impact of technology on young people's education.
[Part 4 - Social lives]
Technology has changed the way young people socialize. Social media has made it easier to make friends and connect with others, but at the same time,
it has limited face-to-face communication. On the other hand, technology has also brought people together in ways that were not possible before.
Our film will explore the ways in which technology has impacted young people's social lives.
[Conclusion]
The impact of technology on young people's lives is both positive and negative. It has revolutionized the world in many ways, but it has also created
challenges that we must address. As we move forward, we need to find ways to help young people navigate the world of technology so they can
make the most of it without losing touch with the real world.

Have you ever noticed how young people nowadays are constantly glued to their screens?
It's not just a passing fad or a temporary trend. Technology has become an integral part of our daily lives, and for many young people, they can't imagine living without it.
In this short documentary, we'll explore the impact technology has on young people and why they feel so dependent on it. Let's take a closer look.
[Opening shots of young people using their phones and computers]
Narrator: Technology has completely transformed the way we live our lives, and for young people, it's all they've ever known.
[Cut to an interview with a young person]
Interviewee: I honestly can't imagine life without my phone. It's like a lifeline. I use it to talk to my friends, to listen to music, to watch videos, to do pretty much everything.
Narrator: We've become so reliant on technology for everything from communication to entertainment that it's almost impossible to go back to the way things were before.
[Cut to another young person]
Interviewee 2: When my phone died, I felt lost. I didn't know what to do with myself. I didn't have any music to listen to or any way to contact my friends.
Narrator: This dependence on technology has grown so pervasive that young people now feel like they can't live without it.
[Cut to a montage of young people on their phones]
Narrator: It's not just that they enjoy using it, they feel like they need it.
[Cut to a group of young people talking]
Interviewee 3: If my phone is out of battery, I start getting anxious. I feel like I'm missing something, like I'm not connected to the world.
Narrator: This constant attachment to our screens has even earned a name: nomophobia, the fear of being without your phone or mobile device.
[Cut to a shot of a young person being anxious because of a dead phone battery]
Narrator: It's not just a silly trend or a phase. This dependence on technology can have a long-lasting impact on our lives.
[Cut to an interview with an expert]
Expert: When we rely too much on technology for our entertainment and social interaction, we start to lose the ability to connect with one another in real life. It can even lead to anxiety and depression.
Narrator: The impact of technology is undeniable, and it's not going away anytime soon. But perhaps it's time for us to reassess our relationship with our devices and find balance in our lives.
[Closing shots of young people interacting with each other without their phones]
Narrator: We are not slaves to our screens. We can still disconnect and connect with each other in meaningful ways. It's all about finding the right balance - using technology to enhance our lives, not control them.

Have you ever felt like you couldn't go a day without checking your phone?
In today's society, social media has become a staple in the lives of young people. It's not just a platform for
communication, but also a source of entertainment and validation.
However, with the rise of social media, comes the rise of addiction. Many young people find themselves checking
their phone every few minutes, scrolling aimlessly through their feeds, and comparing their lives to others.
But what is the impact of this addiction on their lives?
According to a recent study, young people spend an average of 7 hours a day on their phones. Imagine what you
could do with 7 extra hours a day!
But it's not just the amount of time spent on their phones that's concerning. Research shows that social media
addiction can lead to anxiety, depression, and even suicidal thoughts.
So, why do young people feel like they can't live without their phones?
One reason is the fear of missing out (FOMO). Social media has created a culture of comparison, where users feel
like they need to constantly stay up-to-date with their friends and followers.
Additionally, young people use social media as a way to validate themselves. The number of likes, followers, and
comments they receive can affect their self-esteem and self-worth.
But what's the solution?
It's important for young people to find a balance between using social media for fun and staying glued to their
phones. Taking breaks from social media and spending time with friends and family in person can also help to
improve mental health.
So, the next time you feel like you can't go a day without checking your phone, think about the impact it's having
on your life and try to find a healthier balance.

Chances are that the world seems to have shrunk into a 6-inch screen for most young people.
Phones are no longer just communication devices. Theyâre a part of our lives. We check them when we wake up, before we go
to bed and sometimes, even in the middle of the night.
But with all the benefits that come with smartphones, thereâs also a downside. Being constantly connected can lead to
addiction, anxiety, and a feeling of isolation.
