I prefer to project myself as an ethical minded, committed professional in Management, PR & Marketing and
Business Development. As a Science graduate (Colombo University ) and a MBA from Postgraduate Institute
of Management (PIM), University of Sri Jayewardenepura, I have used the knowledge I gained academically
in Business Management to the fullest to advance in my career, which has been diverse, challenging and of an
interesting nature. It began as a journalist and then transitioned to Communication, Management, PR &
Marketing and to Training & Development, which I am now involved as a Manager / Leader. I have held
managerial positions in several leading organizations. I am a talented business writer with a journalistic and
editorial background with around two decades of experience in executive & senior managerial positions. I
have written extensively for national newspapers, leading magazines and produced journals covering areas
such as Economics, Business, Finance, News, Science & Technology etc., where I gained a thorough
knowledge about business.

Japan Sri Lanka Technical and Cultural Association (JASTECA)-www.jasteca.com is an NGO
which is made up of professionals who have been to Japan on scholarships on various business
categories. JASTEC Institute of Management (JIM) is the training arm of JASTECA. We training cadre
on 5S & KAIZEN, soft skills such as Leadership, Supervisory & Secretarial Skills, HRD, Sales and
Marketing & Management etc.

 As the Manager / Leader in charge of JIM, I am managing multiple tasks of Planning, Organizing,
PR & Business Development whilst monitoring all activities
 Is involved in studying competitor activity and forming suitable strategies to stay ahead of

 Negotiating with Trainers / Resource Persons and launching suitable training programmes which
could attract clients.

countries and specializes in developing and building leadership and effectiveness in individuals and
organizations. The company which was inspired by Dr. Stephen R. Covey, who authored the best-selling
book “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People”, has grown beyond expectations.

SARVODAYA ECONOMIC ENTERPRISE
DEVELOPMENT SERVICES (SEEDS)
2008 - 2010
Sarvodaya is the largest Sri Lankan NGO. It has branches spread throughout the country and its main
objective is to alleviate poverty in Sri Lanka through a microfinance network. SEEDS is the economic arm
of the Sarvodaya Movement and manages the economic activities of the Sarvodaya societies and
microfinance units.
Chief Manager – Information and Research
 As a member of the organization’s Senior Management, participated in meetings, which helped to
form the company’s corporate strategy. Headed the Information and Research Division and
provided publicity to company events.
 Prepared Annual Reports for SEEDS and the bi-monthly “Gemma” magazine (published in
Sinhalese) which targeted the small scale entrepreneurs.
 Was involved in coordinating, planning and managing operations of the division.
 Coordination work involving the company’s Quarterly Progress Report, which is a comprehensive
document that summarized the company’s financial operations spread throughout Sri Lanka.
MEDIA SERVICES LTD. (LMD) 2006- 2007
Media Services is a leading media house in Sri Lanka which publishes the LMD business and leisure
magazine (www.lmd.lk) and produces the business TV program BENCHMARK.

 Editing and writing articles for the LMD magazine, whilst doing the necessary research.
 Planning and managing operations of the company. Initiated human resource development initiatives
of the company.
Led the main marketing thrusts of the company, which enabled to attract more advertisements from
leading companies in Sri Lanka. Was a member of the Junior Management Team.

INSTITUTE OF BANKERS OF SRI LANKA (IBSL) 2001 – 2004
IBSL is a leading semi-government institute in Sri Lanka that educates the country’s bankers and grants
them internationally recognized diplomas in banking studies in association with the Chartered Institute of
Bankers (CIB), London.
Assistant Director – Business Development
 As the Assistant Director of IBSL, my tasks were mainly centred on publications and business
development which involved improving the communication services with the students and the
membership, which was over 10,000.
 Was involved in operations which included planning, organizing and coordinating activities and
developing marketing strategies. Managed an Advertising Budget of over Rs.3 mn per year.
 I headed the marketing/advertising functions of IBSL and provided leadership that helped to improve
efficiency and effectiveness in these spheres of activity. From a public relations perspective, I
developed strategies to improve IBSL’s relationships with its members, students and its public.
Edited and produced of the Bankers Journal, which was the official organ of the institute that is circulated
to its entire membership and student body. Contributed significantly to the management of internal
communications of IBSL.
“THE ISLAND” NEWSPAPER – Upali Newspapers Ltd. 1998 – 2001,
‘The Island’ (www.island.lk) is a national newspaper, which is published by Upali Newspapers limited. It is
one of the oldest newspapers (about 30 years) in Sri Lanka and styles itself to be independent in its
views. For three years I worked as a journalist and for one year as the Business Editor.
Journalist / Business Editor
 As a journalist, contributed to national causes and in shaping public opinion in the country in a
constructive manner. Developed writing skills that were important in later years in communications
and related work.
 Commenced as a science writer but later on graduated to do business writing. I ended my career in
this newspaper as the Business Editor. In this post, I was exposed to management as well as editorial
work because I led the Business Desk.
 Observed strict deadlines and was responsible for the contents in the business news pages. I had to
delegate work to other journalist and prepare work schedules for them. Here I was exposed to
management functions such as planning, organizing and coordinating. This experience enabled me to
graduate into higher positions in business administration.
I also worked for Environmental Resources & Investments as a Project Manager in 2007/2008
and for the Economic Reforms Technical Assistance Project (ERTA) as a Communications
Consultant in 2005/2006.
