Nmat strategy (1)
1. NMAT Strategy
Language skills –
• Our main focus will be to solve maximum paper with more than 90% accuracy.
• The prominent part in language skills section includes RC, PJ, Grammar, Antonym-
synonyms, Cloze test.
• In NMAT time is a game changer, it’s not easy to do 32 ques in 22 mins, especially when
it contains 2-3 RCs.
• Because its not easy to remember all grammar rules and difficult vocab words, our
prominent focus will be to attempt RCs with 100% accuracy.
• RCs of NMAT are not very difficult and are a level easier than CAT, but are quite lengthy,
hence speed reading will be most important.
• For RCs you can use any material of LOD1/LOD2. Its important to use a timer while
doing RCs. Spend max 5-6 mins in one RC while you are practicing. NMAT gives most of
the times direct fact-based questions, so READ RC PROPERLY. You can’t move to next
question until you attempt the one on your screen, so of you understand it just mark in
1 min else go.
• For PJs – PJs of NMAT are easier than CAT, hence scoring questions. PJs don’t have any
proper strategy, just practice by remembering rules such as linking articles and nouns,
nouns and pronouns etc. Play smart, read PJs fast and look for links. PJs also you can
practice from any material you are using but before practicing LEARN THE RULES/HOW
TO MAKE LINKS then only you will be able to solve.
• Grammar – Grammar questions are the shortest but aspirants fail to answer as its not
easy to remember rules etc. DON’T LEAVE GRAMMAR. Practice only HALF AN HOUR
daily but do practice. RULES may seem difficult but in exams questions are on lighter
side and trust me THEY WILL CLICK if you have practiced.
2. • VOCAB – Around 30-40% of paper will depend on it, and the most haunting thing is
VOCAB. From where to learn? How to remember? I suggest WORD POWER MADE EASY.
THIS BOOK WAS A BOON FOR ME.. It will sail you through with a respectable score.
• You can practice certain cloze test, antonym synonym, analogies if you want. (But to be
honest I used to forget all this questions, but you can try)
And THIS IS IT, Practice more and more, don’t fall in trap in going wide and studying many
topics. Just do this and keep practicing. NMAT is not a game of wide topics, it is ADAPTABLE. It
will adjust paper’s difficulty level according to you so you have to BE VERY COMFORTABLE AT
YOUR LEVEL.
Logical Reasoning –
Basically, LR consists of VERBAL REASONING (Statement – Argument, assumption based,
statement-inference, course of action etc.) and ANALYTICAL REASONING (arrangements,
syllogisms, input-output, blood relations, classification etc.).
To ace this section, remember most of the questions you will get is VERBAL reasoning,
arrangements, syllogisms and input-output. Rest maybe you get 1 or 2 ques each from any of
topic like coding, decoding, symbol based, blood relation, direction sense etc.
If you are a person with average IQ, you can ace these questions but what needs practice is
VERBAL REASONING.
• Solve at least 100 ques each of Statement-argument, assumption, inference, course of
action.
• When you solve a lot, you start getting a hold of things. MAINTAIN THAT FLOW.
• For analytical reasoning, focus on arrangements because you have to solve the set. Each
set has 4-5 questions and you can’t even see WHAT IS THE NEXT QUESTION. So, you
need to hurry in arrangements and puzzles. Don’t take more than 5 mins in 1 set.
• Practice syllogisms and Input-output a lot, these questions seem easy but in conditional
questions they can be tricky so practice properly.
• Input – output set if you can’t make out the pattern in approx. 3 mins just leave and
move. People get stuck because each set has 4 questions and the don’t want to miss 12
numbers but this ends up in last moment hurrying so be very careful.
• Rest of analytical reasoning you can practice from past NMAT and SNAP question papers
of previous years. It’s enough.
3. Quantitative Aptitude
This section looks easier than CAT and DI is very basic hence is not that practiced
particularly for NMAT. But let me tell you NMAT 2020 had QA cut as 76 and most of the
test takers had a score of 74-75 and they missed the cut off by 1 or 2 marks. This section
was make or break section for 2020 year.
So, its important that you focus on sectionals cut offs as well.
• For this section there is not much to say. Practice in same flow as CAT.
• Arithmetic, algebra, geometry – practice properly at least LOD2.
• NMAT quants is not very easy and is at Level of difficulty 2.
• Its very important to clear the basics.
• PROBABILITY – Modern math is an important part of this exam and hence do it
properly. Please don’t try to leave it at any cost.
• DON’T UNDERESTIMATE DI – There are usually 2-3 DI sets and for most of the times
they come at last of the section. By that time, we are exhausted with heavy quants and
DI though simple looking, is very long and calculative. For people like me who follow
section order same as CAT take quants at last and usually 15 mins approx. are left or less
to solve long calculative DI sets. Please maintain your calm. DI is a make or break, one
calculation mistake and 4-5 mins waste.
• SO, PRACTICE CALCULATION TRICKS PROPERLY. Percentage, ratio, addition,
subtraction, multiplication, squares, roots etc. Practice these with a lot of diligence.
Solve variety of bar graphs, line graphs etc. of big values.
• A very strong arithmetic, DI, Modern math will be helpful in acing this section.
General tips –
• Give one mock a week till 30th August. Be very chilled at least 2 hours before the mock.
• From 1st September, give 2 mocks a week.
• Analyze – time taken per easy question, time lapsed, wasted, weak topics, strengths and
focus on it.
• KEEP PRACTISING THE OLD CONCEPTS AND MOCKS AGAIN AND AGAIN. (THIS IS VERY
IMPORTANT)
• Be very chilled and cool during exam. This is extremely helpful.
• Take a very calm and long sleep before exam.
• If they allow to take paper from home, I would recommend from home only. My
experience was very smooth, it will save all your time of travelling etc.
4. • It’s up to you when you want to take exam. But I would suggest you to take an expert
advice, to plan out your examination dates. (For more info on this CLICK)
