In the wild, dolphins will spend about 80% of their time below the surface.
Wild dolphins can swim up to 40-100 miles per day.
Nearly half of all captured dolphins die within their first two years of captivity and the ones that survive will only live a total of 5 years max.
In captivity, they spend about 20% of their time below the surface.
Dolphins in captivity spend thewhole day going around in circles in the pool.,[object Object],[object Object]

Dolphin Species There are 36 different kinds of ocean dolphins and 5 species of river dolphins. The largest dolphin is the Orca, also known as “killer whale”.Orcas grow up to 6.1 meters long and they are named as whales because their size, but they really belong to the toothed cetacean family just like dolphins do. The most popular dolphin is the “bottlenose dolphin".Bottlenose dolphins are the ones we have seen in TV series, movies and aquatic shows. Bottlenose dolphins can grow up to 2.5-2.8 meters.
A dolphins biggest threat Humans are the greatest threat to dolphins: environmental pollution, habitat destruction and overfishing are the main reasons why so many dolphin species are endangered. Lots of dolphins get stuck in fishing nets and in some countries, dolphins are deliberately killed because they eat the fish that the fishermen want to catch. If we do not do anything about it, dolphins might soon be extinct.

  • 15. Dolphin Slaughter www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4VZWppoTCc Here is a video showing what happens to the dolphins that aren’t selected for captivity. This video does show some graphic images, so watch at your own risk.
  • 16. The ones that aren’t picked During being captured the dolphins can die from the stress of all the noise and commotion going on. The ones that aren't picked will be slaughtered and if they escape being slaughtered, they will most likely die from getting caught in the nets. The 53% that survive the violent capture, will die within 90 days.
  • 17. Interesting Dolphin Facts Dolphins use a technique called echolocation. This technique uses the same principles of a radar, and it is used to find food and navigate. Dolphins are social beings.Dolphins live in groups and cooperate among each other for activities like getting food and calf rising. Dolphins are warm-blooded.As mammals, dolphins are warm blooded and their internal temperature is around 36 degrees. To conserve this temperature they are surrounded by a thick layer of fat called “blubber” just below the skin. The bottlenose dolphin brain weighs 1500-1600 grams. While average human brain weighs 1200-1300 grams. This is not a conclusive evidence of dolphin intelligence as many other factors might be the cause of intelligence according to scientists. Dolphins communicate efficiently.Dolphins can make a unique signature whistle that may help individual dolphins recognizeeach other, collaborate and perform several other kinds of communication. Dolphins can swim 5 to 12 kilometers per hour. This will depend on the species and situation, although fastest dolphins can reach up to 32 km/
  • 18. Mans second best friend Dolphins love people and in the wild they will save them if need be. Dolphins and humans have a connection just like humans do with dogs.
  • 19. Is it really worth them suffering? We love to watch dolphins and be around them, but what’s best for them? If we set them all free then we wouldn’t be able to see them at zoos anymore, but since they are so friendly towards humans, we could still swim with them in the wild. It looks like a dolphin is always smiling, so there is no way to tell when they are unhappy. Sure we like to enjoy them, but because of our enjoyment, we might one day lose these magnificent creatures.
