2. Front cover Back cover
For my front cover I will
include a title âGame of
thronesâ in a similar or the
same font used in the books
in the HBO series. I will
place this in the top of the
page, in a dark eerie colour
such as grey or blue to
match the aesthetic of
Game of Thrones.
Game of Thrones.
I will use a back ground
image of either ice, fire, or
some sort of naturalistic
imagery to match the natural
elements that are heavily
important in the books.
I will use a barcode as it
matches the codes and
conventions of a fanzine. It
is essential that I use these
to signify to the audience
that it is a professional
fanzine that you would want
purchase.
I will use an adapted image of the iron
throne in my fanzine as I feel it is a
significant feature of GOT. It also means I
donât have to use any particular character
(favouritism) I will edit this image on
Adobe Photoshop. I will use dull colours
that will match the iron throne as seen in
the book and the HBO series.
In the back cover I will place
an array of sigilâs and âthe
house wordsâ associated
with GOT, I could create all
of the house crests within
the book for example
Targaryen, Tully, Lannister,
Iron Islands, Baratheon etc.
this will help to sell the
fanzine as it shows the
depth of the book and
series, I feel it would entice
the audience to join in the
middle earth.
I will also place images of key elements of the series, such as dragon
glass, swords, dragons and ships.
This will show the graphic making ability.
3. Index Map of WesterosContent
.Index pages 1
.Map of Westeros 2
.Jon Snow 3
.Deaneries Targaryen 4
. Mother Of Dragons 5
.Tyrion 6
Cersei 7
Within this index
I wanted to
include headings
to each key
concept and the
page number
where to find it
in my fanzine.
Organize the
main headings in
alphabetical
order.
The background of my index I will add
family crest assioated with each family, for
example, House Tully, House Targaryen
etc.
Each page will have a page number, to
convey with codes and conventions of a
fanzine.
1
2
I will include a map
of Westeros to
simply show case
my graphic skills in
Photoshop adobe. I
will render my own
images of the map
and add my own
creative spin. My
aim is too include
as many images as
possible in my
fanzine to it
remains interesting
for my audience
too look at. And to
improve my
rendering skills on
different Adobe
softwares.
4. Jon Snow
Jon Snow History:

a very large
rendered image of
Jon Snow on the left
hand side of my

this image is direct
mode of address to
the audience which
entices the reader to
buy the fanzine. I
will ensure this
image almost looks
slightly aged, or how
a photo would look
the set GOT. All the text on my double page spread
will be size 11pt, and will be in an
adapted version of aerial font, or a font
that I find to be suited to the aesthetic
of my fanzine (Celtic) or vintage.
The text is set into
columns, usually 2-4
columns when seen
in fanzines.
I will do this as this
makes the text
appear tidy, rather
than spread all
around the page. I
have researched
how to make
columns in
photoshop.
I might include quotes associated with Jon Snow for
example âThe Long Night is coming, and the dead
come with itâ. A long the bottom of the image of Jon,
to add text image cohesion. This will grip the reader to
the DPS, and entice them to read it.

Similar to Jon Snowâs DPS I intend to add a quote along the
bottom of the image of The Mother Of Dragons, this again
will give an initial insight to what kind of character Dany is. It
will also grip the audience. For example â I will take whatâs
mine with fire and bloodâ.
Within the double

Daenerys I will use a
large image of her,

7. Jon Snow Pages 4-5 copy
History-
In season one Jon snow is presented as a bastard of Lord Eddard stark, of House Stark. ( Castle Winterfell).
However he is cast as Nedâs illegitimate son a âbastardâ. Jon Snow grew up with his half siblings; Nedâs full children, Arya, Rob, Brandon, Sansa,
and Rickon. Their mother Catelyn Stark, originated from house Tully, their sidgil is a leaping trout, silver, on a field of rippling blue and red. The
tully words are family, duty, honor.
However on the contrary Catelyn Stark struggled to accept Jon into the family, she only seeâs Nedâs dishonour in Jon.
As Jon never knew his mother, he was told his mother was a low born. This always set Jon apart from his siblings, which invests the audience into
his character initially. Jon decides at 17 to join the Nights Watch in the deep north âThe wallâ. As he was inspired by his bastard uncle (Nedâs half
brother), who always saw potential in him. During his time in the Nights Watch, we see Jon Snow climb the ranks and eventually become Lord
Commander of the wall. However due to his loyalty to the free folk who are renowned for savaging, stealing and raping whole villages over the
wall for their own space, he is then mutilated by those who betray him and loose faith in his ability to rule the nights watch.
Heroic/Villainous tendencies-
The villainous tendencies of Jon Snow is interesting because he is somewhat of a protagonist character in other words he is a force for good,
however it is clear when he portrays his oath to the Night Watch, and bedâs a women and claims â his watch is overâ and leaves the wall shows
weakness and distrustfulness in this character. I feel this shows a villainous quality because dishonour is undesirable and unlikable which does
come to the forefront when more is at play for the safety of Westeros in later seasons
Secondly you could say that Jonâs disloyalty to his own house Stark becomes apparent when he is sworn in as King of the North before travels to
negotiate with Daenerys Targaryen, once she demonstrates her power with dragons, he bends the knee to the Mother of Dragons obeying his
queen rather than his followers in the north who have faith in him. Again this doesnât show a good sign of leadership.
Love life-
8. ⢠Deaneries Targaryen 6-7 pages copy
⢠Daenerys Stormborn of the house Targaryen, other wise known as Mother of Dragons is one of the most significant
characters in Game of Thrones. The Targaryen's are the blood of the dragon, descended from ancient Valyria. The
mad King as known as Aery's was killed by the king slayer (Jamie Lannister) , because of his violence and cruelty
toward innocent civilians living in Westeros. The Mad King has three children, Rhaegar, Viserys and his youngest
Deaneries. After the death of Deaneries brother Rhaegar in season one, she became determined to take the Iron
Throne of Westeros for herself. Her power and status solidified when she successfully manages to hatch her children
(three dragons). Over the seasons you see Daenerys evolve from a frightened young heir, bullied by all the males
around her, grow into a powerful, fierce queen, that demands respect from everyone.
⢠Villainous Traits-
⢠The Mother of Dragons after seven seasons of conquering Bravos, Dorne, Astapor, Yunkai and Meeren she also
liberates the people of Slavers Bay. She becomes a powerful player for the Throne and is ready to conquer the
capital. However it becomes apparent that Daeneries Tarygerian becomes clouded by personal loss and heart break
after finding out she is no longer the rightful heir to the Throne, she cracks. As they say the apple doesnât fall far
from the tree. Her parentage is somewhat evident of crazy and unjust afterall her father was the mad King. We
definitely see this âfire and bloodâ nature come out. The biggest error she makes is avenging her losses with extreme
genocide and burns the whole city of Kings Landing with her Dragon named Viserion in seasons 8.
⢠Heroic Traits-
⢠When you think of a âheroâ in a objective sense you feel that this person/ character/superhero/imagined entity
would have qualities of being courageous, outstanding, selfless ,a force for good and unique in its powers. I feel
Daeneries fits this mould as she births three dragons by stepping into a roaring fire to hatch the dragons eggs and
comes out âunburntâ to me I feel this is as a unique heroic power but more importantly it fits with the idea of a
âfantasyâ character with three dragons to me it shows a superhero status.
9. ⢠Tyrion Lannister-8-9 copy
⢠History- House Lannister characteristics are fair-haired and handsome. Tyrion however is not. Deformed at birth and his
mother dying during his birth, he becomes the most disappointing Lannister child in his fathers eyes (Tywin Lannister). This
surely affected Tyrion over the years and becomes resentful towards his father and his sister, both who are morally corrupt. He
turns to reading and knowledge of the history of Westeros, and becomes a force to be reckoned with due to his intelligence,
this irritates his family and his enemies. Out of all the Lannister's he experiences most of the globe, kept captive at the eerie,
the wall, and Bravos. A big character milestone in season 4 he is wrongly accused of killing the King (Joffrey Baratheon) his
nephew, His family is fully aware that he is innocent. But still charges him with treason, and sends him to the wall, however he
rebels, kills his father on the toilet, and sets sail to become part of Daenerys allegiance.
Heroic-
Tyrion's heroic qualities is that he is very cunning but kind, he comes up with master plans to conquer his enemies using wit and
intelligence to checkmate his enemies, he understand how the game is played. But he is also very capable of sympathy and
kindness for anyone who he might perceive and venerable or a degenerate. He also has survived a lot of hardship and derogative
comments throughout his life. During a time where killing skills and masculine size is largely valued for power, he has demanded
respect due to his intelligence and outthinking his enemies.
Villainous- During the battle of Black Water, the attempt of Stannis Baratheon invading Kings landing to seize the Iron Throne
from King Joffrey. Tyrion as the kings hand, led the defence of Kings Landing, he came up with a cunning plan to use wildfire, a
green liquid that is highly flammable, to blow up Stannisâs fleet of ships, this caused mass destruction and the death of many
soldiers, this shows that Tyrion has a very destructive side and has a tendency to use violence to destroy his enemies, with no
regard of innocent bystanders dying.
10. Health & Safety
Potential issues How to resolve issues.
A potential issue that could be found is over
overuse injuries of the hand.
It is essential that I take regular breaks during the
project to avoid any hand cramps or injury
Eyestrain Have the computer monitor (screen) either at eye
lever or slightly lower
Shoulder ache. Have the keyboard at a height that lets your elbows
rest comfortably at your side. Your forearms should
be roughly parallel with the floor and level with
keyboard.
Bad posture. Adjust your chair, specially designed to help your
spine so your back keep its natural curve while
sitting.
Tiredness Take frequent short breaks and go for a walk, or do
some stretching. Stand often.
11. Resources
This is a list of resources needed to create my fanzine:
1. Adobe premier
2. Photoshop
3. Indesign
4. Images of characters
5. Grammar and punctuation checker (Microsoft word)
6. Potentially a camera
7. Batteries for a camera
8. Computer
9. Charger for computer
10. Memory cards
11. Written article
12. Images edited on Photoshop
14. ⢠Graphicâs and Colour schemes
⢠House Targaryen:
⢠Red and black both are strong colours, red connotes passion, blood could be
linked to The Mother of dragons tendency for fire and blood, when you see
the colour red you often think of fear or a warning with correlates directly with
Daenerys character. Black is a protector colour and tends to be dramatic,
Daenerys Targaryen personally portrays all characteristics of her house quite
passionately.
⢠House Stark:
⢠Being a combination of black and white. Grey portrays strength with
attention to detail in the wolf crest, so see elements of white, which
could connote pure values. The starks through each season have
portrayed strength with pure hearts at many tragic costs.
⢠House Baratheon:
⢠Yellow insinuates intelligence, Educated and a mind for business.
Stannis Baratheon empowers himself as a man of strategy at
whatever cost.
⢠House Lannister:
⢠Gold and Red- Gold displays success and courage while red holds
anger and power and passion similar to house Targaryen. The
unpopular Lannister's clam power and fortune while struggling to
keep hold of their position with forceful anger.
15. I picked this particular font due to the fact I think it
would be look good as perhaps a title on a DPS, it is
easy to read yet still eye-catching to the audience
when reading the pages. I aim to use different fonts
throughout my DPS. It also suits the genre of âmiddle
worldâ demonstrated throughout the books and
series
The reason why I picked this font as it still within
context of the genre of game of thrones, and would be
easy to read on a DPS. However I feel that it is slightly
too modern for the aged scroll like look I am going for.
I will add different colours to all my fonts depending
on which character I am analysing , this could be red
for Lannisterâs, black for the Starks.
The obvious reason why I Picked this font is due to
fact it is the original or very similar font used in both
the books and in the series, I found this font on
GameOfThronesfont.com I am unsure if I will use
this font however I feel the audience will know
straight away what my fanzine is about.
16. The colour scheme here is a different range from light cream to
dark brown. In earlier seasons you see Cerseiâs colour scheme to
be quite bold, in expensive furs and silks, this connotes her
affluence and wealth being the queen of Kings Landing. Usually
you see the Lannister's in bold reds, purples, royal blues. The
snap shot shows cerci in the North, the colour change in this
episode might represent her feelings toward her enemies the
Starks. I will most likely use rich, royal colours in my dps of the
Lannister's as I want to express the chauvinistic, materialistic
side to the Lannisterâs as a family
17. The colour scheme reminds of me of a tapestry with rich colours
chosen to portray a difference in geographical location. I believe
this is both purposeful and practical; they have chosen these
colours because it shows the affluence of this region and the
regal allure the Stormborn Queen has in the earlier seasons,
practically lighter colours are better in the heat therefore light
blues and creams will ensure the queen will not wilt in the
weather, do not miss the elements of gold on the garment. I will
consider to apply this to my own fanzine because it shows a
refreshing image to the eyes instead of the darker harsh greys
and black images, font and text shown on the covers of the book
from the Game of Thrones. This way my fanzine will be unique as
it finds a gap in the market and as a result will sell better.
