2. My focus group have provided some helpful feedback in order to make my texts appeal
to my target audience of 14-25 year olds.
As someone working on a creative project without a group/team, the feedback from
my focus group has been essential in helping me make some creative decisions. The
insight of my focus group caused me to tweak and change some aspects of my
production and ancillaries in order to appeal more to my audience, and thus
theoretically increasing the popularity of my brand as if it was a real media product.
3. Some helpful feedback was given during my initial ideas
process for my ancillary designs. I created 3 drafts for
front cover concepts, each following the basic idea of a
portrait with large amounts of flowing hair.
I posted these designs along with a poll on twitter which
my focus group all voted on, along with some more
people from my target audience. The results concluded
that number 2 was the most popular design, with over
half of the votes.
They also suggested that make the hair curly instead of
the wavy hair in the sketches, and I later followed through
with this suggestion.
4. My focus group also gave feedback throughout the process of creating my front cover. One aspect of this
was choosing a font for the front cover (and for the text on the rest of my digipak and my other ancillary).
I gave 3 different fonts to decide between, one of which was handwritten. My group liked the handwritten
font because it fit cohesively with the hand-drawn aesthetic of the whole cover, but they suggested that
the text should be in capitals so it stands out more.
5. Below is the final album cover with the suggested font. It
definitely stands out more, but without overpowering the
design.
6. I also changed the font on my
magazine advertisement ancillary
to capital letters.
My focus group commented that
the font on the final product
stands out more, and this is
crucial as a magazine
advertisement as it needs to grab
the attention of the reader to
encourage them to listen to the
album (especially the single).

7. When looking through the footage of my first filming session, I found most of it
was grainy because I incorrectly adjusted my camera settings. I attempted to
restore some of the clips by removing the noise and grain in after effects, but it
still ended up with a fair amount of grain. I showed the edited clips to my focus
group and one person in my focus group who studies media production at
university suggested that I should re-shoot rather than using that footage or
spending a long time attempting to restore the video to a higher degree, and the
rest of the focus group agreed.
I’m really happy with decision as my final production ended up with much
smoother footage, and it definitely brought up the quality and production value.
8. A shot from the first filming session A shot from the re-shoot (after post-production
colour overlay added)
9. Someone watching my music video for the first time can provide valuable insight into things that
don’t quite fit or flow smoothly because as the person who has spent weeks editing the
production, I know my video inside-out and any tiny imperfections will stand out to me. The
feedback from my focus group lets me know what needs to be changed and also makes me
realise that some issues I see are actually unnoticeable to the average viewer.
For example, some colours need to be less saturated in the middle 8 during the fast colour-
changing cuts. The colours on the screen I was editing on make the colours seem less saturated
than on other devices, so the feedback allowed me to change the colour to achieve the desired
effect on those other devices.
10. Some other examples of improvement suggestions for my music video:
• “At 1:42 one clip overlays the shot its transitioning to for a small amount of
time. It could look smoother [if this was changed]”
• The clip at 3:03: “change the video boundary to the centre of the page so it
looks more intentional and also matches the symmetry of the following shot”
I made these changes in the final cut of my music video production.
