Introduction to Srotas
• Every stable tissue is composed of numerous minute living
cells which forms organ and other complicated structure
• For each tissues or cells it is needed to provide nutrition
• They need particular passage or spaces to provide
nutrition to the particular cells or organs
8. • धमसि - The structure which we can pulsate
compared to arteries
• स्रोतस् - All the channels of the body all organ
systems
• ससरः - Carrying substance ( compared to veins)
9. Commentary on Srotas
Gangadhara
• The pathways through which Rasa, rakta etc tissues
are transported or the pathways through which the
tissues flow are called Srotas
Chakrapani
• The channels which transport the Poshaka dhatus (the
part of the rasa etc tissues which flow to provide
nutrition to the successive tissues) are called Srotas.

• The structure having cavity or space are called as
srotas

• असतम त्रस्य च अक ले च असितस्य च िोिि त् ।
अन्नव सिसि दुष्यन्ति वर्ुण्न्न्य त् प वकस्य च ।।

असतम त्रस्य - Heavy food intake
अक ले - Incorrect timings of taking food
असितस्य - Unwholesome food
वर्ुण्न्न्य त् प वकस्य - Digestive fire

31. • Ashraddha – lack of interest in the food
• Aruchi – tastelessness
• Aasya vairasya – feeling of weird tastes in the mouth
• Arasagnata – failure to identify any taste
• Hrullasa – watering of mouth, excessive salivation, nausea
• Gourava – heaviness
• Tandra – drowsiness
• Angamarda – pain in body parts
• Jwara – fever
• Tama – feeling of darkness before the eyes
• Pandutva – anaemia
• Srotorodha – block in multiple channels of the body
• Klaibya – impotence
• Saada – fatigue, stoppage of working of organs and tissues
• Krushangataa – emaciation
• Nasho agnehe – destruction of agni, the metabolic fire

सदवस्वप्न - sleeping in day time

व रुसण - Excessive consumption of alcohol

स्थूलशोफत सपप स च ।
स्वेद र्मिां - Excessive sweating
सिग्ध ङ्गत - oily appearance of body
त लु शोष - Dryness of Pallate
स्थूल - obesity
शोफत - Oedema
सपप स - Thirst

अध्यास्तदन्तौ दांन्तस्थि मेदोशूलां च धववणवत

अध्यास्स्त - Extra growth of bone
अध्यदांत - Extra growth ot teeth
मेदशूल - Pain of bone tissues
धववणवत - discoloration of body
िख - Nail
श्मसृ - Mustache

पवा रुक- Pain in Joints
तमो दशाि - Black circles infront of eyes
अरुष ां - seborrhoes
स्थुल मूल व पवा - Enlarged joints

• अक लयोसिर्मि सन्नग्रि दसतमथुि त्|
शुक्रव िीसि दुष्यन्ति शस्त्रक्ष र सग्नसिस्तथ ।।

अयोसिर्म - sex with women having abnormal vagina
सिग्रि - withhold रेतस् or natural urge
श स्त्र - Injuries by instrument or weapon to genital area
असतमथुि - Excessive sex
क्ष र - Application of bases to genital organ
असग्न - fire burns
55. Signs and symptoms

58. Cause
• मुसत्रतीदक िक्ष्य न्तस्त्रसेवि त – Drinking water, taking food and
having sex in the presence of urge for urination (urine should
be voided before eating, drinking or having sex)
• मूत्र सिग्रि– habit of holding the urge of voiding urine as a
regular practice
• सक्षण– body getting emaciated or tissue depletion,
consumption
• असिक्षत – injury or damage to the passages carrying urine

असतसांत प – exposure to heat
शीतोष्णक्रमसेव ि त non-judicious intake of cold and hot foods
and comforts, at a time
क्रोद – excessive anger
शोक – excessive grief
िय– excessive fear

• अस्वेदि – Lack of sweating
• अधतस्वेदि– Excessive sweating
• पुरारुष्या – Roughness of the skin
• अधत स्लश्ण– Excessive smoothness of the skin
• पुरषरदा – Burning sensation
• लोम ह व – Horripilation

defecation
• असत शि त– excessive eating
• असिणा– indigestion
• अध्य शित– repeated eating (eating before the food
taken before is digested)

• अल्प ल्प– faeces getting expelled in small
quantities
• स शब्द – lot of sounds during defecation
• स शुल – painful excretion of faeces
• असतद्रव – liquid or loos stools
• असतग्रांसथ – solid, hard stools in the form of
pellets,
• असति हु– excess formation of faeces or
frequent excretion
• अिि – flatulent disorders
• दुर्ादां– foul smelling faeces
• ग्रसथग्रत - hard faeces in the intestines
(difficult to excrete)

• Arthava vitiation occurs due to pitta and
rakta vitation
Exposure to fire, sunlight
Consumption of oily , hot foods
70. Conclusion
•Srotas are the channel responsible
for transfer of nutrition and also
responsible for the disease
production.
