Bukal Life Care Brochure
1. About Us
Bukal Life Care was first organized in 2009
in response to the devastation in Northern
Luzon due to Typhoon Pepeng, providing
medical care, emergency response goods,
and crisis counseling to primary,
secondary, and “hidden” victims/survivors.
We were registered in 2010 (Sec. Reg.
CN201029479). We focus on the
psychological, emotional, and spiritual
needs of people in the Philippines. We are
an ecumenical Christian organization and
believe that the faith of our clients is a
potential resource in healing.
Our Vision
"To provide spiritual and psychosocial
support to holistically transform lives."

What is Pastoral Care?
Pastoral Care is the practice of the church
in providing help in terms of Sustaining,
Guiding, Healing, and Reconciliation. Two
sub-fields of pastoral care are:
-Historical Pastoral Care, drawing wisdom
from nearly three millenia of Jewish and
Christian history, and
-Clinical Pastoral Care, developed starting
in the 1920s seeking to bring together
theology and psychology.
We at Bukal Life Care, see value in
drawing discerningly from both traditions.
Major Partnerships
-Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary.
PBTS provides us space for our center, as
well as opportunities for training in CPE
and other pastoral care topics that can be
taken for credit with the seminary.
-College of Pastoral Supervision and
Psychotherapy. CPSP is one of the most
well-known and respected certifiers for
clinical chaplaincy, pastoral counseling,
and clinical pastoral training. We have
partnered with them formally since 2011.
-CPSP-Philippines. This certifying
organization has its headquarters at Bukal
Life Care, with training branches in
Baguio, Manila, and in Visayas and
Mindanao.

2. Services
Clinical Pastoral
Education
We provide training for pastoral staff and
chaplains through our Clinical Pastoral
Education/Training program (CPE/T). We
are certified as a training center by the
College of Pastoral Supervision and
Psychotherapy (CPSP,
www.pastoralreport.com) as well as CPSP-
Philippines. Our training is interfaith and we
have batches of trainees going through the
program most of the year, with our CPE-
Intensive program occurring March to May.
Most practical ministry is done in hospitals
and jails in the Baguio/La Trinidad area.
Those seeking to have basic pastoral care
skills within a clinical or community setting,
we also have Clinical Pastoral Orientation
Unlike CPE and SIT programs, this is not
CPSP-certified, but can be taken for seminary
credit.

FAQs
Do you charge for services? We do not charge for
pastoral care services. We do sometimes have to
charge for training and materials (especially
CPE/T), but our goal is to, as much as possible,
never turn anyone away due to financial reasons.
Do you provide residential services? No. We are
located on the beautiful campus of PBTS. Some
clients choose to stay a few days on campus, and we
will meet them during that time as is needed. But
we do not have a program for residential care.
What are your office hours? We are a group of
volunteers. As such, our office is sometimes closed.
At other times it may be open but busy being used
for counseling or training. It is best to text or email
us to set up an appointment.
Do you do psychotherapy? Even though with have
volunteers as well as partners who are registered
guidance counselors, we focus on pastoral care. If
formal psychotherapy is needed, we will refer the
client to a specialist.
Pastoral Care
We provide support through sustaining,
healing, guiding, and reconciling. This may
include one-on-one psychospiritual care, pre-
marital or marital counseling, ministerial
restoration, and conflict resolution. It may
include group or individual care.
Related to these, we do individual and small
group stress defusion or stress debriefing after
personal or small group trauma, as well as
ministerial member care and recovery.
Other Services
• Disaster Response and Disaster
Response Chaplain Training. We
primarily use Modified NOVA, but we
have training also in PFA and CISM.
• Testing. We do evaluative testing in
several areas including personality,
stress and burnout, relationships, and
more. For more formal psychological
tests, we can refer clients to appropriate
testing centers.
• Short-Course Trainings/Seminars.
We lead many mini-seminars on topics
such as conflict, parenting, and abuse.
Our most recent program is our lay-
shepherding program for churches,
which involves approximately 8-10
hours of training.
• Training Materials. We develop
training materials including visual
presentations and books for the use of
others. Our most recent work is the book
“The Art of Pastoral Care”.
