1. Synopsis:
Most fifteen year old girls don't resort to picking pockets on the streets for petty coin. Neither does
Talina, the Crimson Shadow. Her sights are set much higher, only taking her scores from the most
tempting, difficult, and rewarding places. She hates nobles, and likes to hit them where it hurts the
most, right in the treasury.
But when she messes up a score, and her victim sees her, what is a girl to do? She runs. Fast. But
for some reason, he follows her, and she just can't seem to shake him. And worse, he follows her all
the way home to the lair of the Crimson Daggers, a vicious and well known group of thugs and
thieves, thought to scholars to be a myth, and to the people as heroes.
Prince Eran is determined to find out the truth for himself, and this young thief is his best chance to
find the infamous group and earn himself some recognition, and step out from the very long
shadows of the older princes. But after a failed pursuit, and an unwilling escort home that opens his
eyes to the true darkness of the world, the young prince is dragged into plots and conspiracies
surrounding the right of succession, and the future of the Kingdom of Danterin.
Eran will need to seek help from unlikely places, if he’s to survive this brutal, three-way battle for the
throne. And Talina will need a helping hand after getting caught right in the middle of the bloody
struggle.
Excerpt:
I press my hand to one of the doors and listen hard. I hear nothing, which means that there is no one
inside. I look around, making sure no one can see me, before slipping through the doors.
Inside this new chamber, my eyes go wide. I look around, in awe of the treasure around me. Gold,
jewels, expensive furniture and dishes, decorations and fabrics. It's everything that I dreamed it
would be.
"Vikar couldn't have known about this...if he had, there's no way that he would have told me not to
come." Mystified, I reach for a pretty-looking tiara. Gold and silver, with clear little gems. It looks like
it could fit comfortably on my head.
Suddenly, a click sounds behind me, and a creaking sound as the doors open. I spin around, only to
come face to face with a pair of copper eyes and a shock of hair as black as night. He glares at me
coldly and draws his sword. "Come quietly, and I won't kill you."
A sword pointed at my chest, and nowhere to run to. That's just my kind of trouble, and the kind of
trouble that Vikar always gets angry at me for getting myself into. I smirk at this ignorant fool. "That's
2. assuming that you can catch the Crimson Shadow." And like a ghost, I become silent and invisible
as I melt back into the shadows.
