1. The Science , Technology
and Society a brief
introduction and itsâ
importance
2. The Philippine Government Policy
In the present Freedom Constitution clearly stated that there is a policy for science and technology. As follows
ARTICLE XIV
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
Section 10. Science and technology are essential for national development and progress. The State shall give
priority to research and development, invention, innovation, and their utilization; and to science and technology
education, training, and services. It shall support indigenous, appropriate, and self-reliant scientific and
technological capabilities, and their application to the countryâs productive systems and national life.
Section 11. The Congress may provide for incentives, including tax deductions, to encourage private
participation in programs of basic and applied scientific research. Scholarships, grants-in-aid, or other forms of
incentives shall be provided to deserving science students, researchers, scientists, inventors, technologists, and
specially gifted citizens.
3. What is science?
ï” Science encompasses the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the
physical and natural world through observation and experiment, and technology.
ï” The UNESCO explains that Science is the greatest collective endeavor. In other
words, science is one of the most important channels of knowledge. It has a
specific role, as well as a variety of functions for the benefit of our society:
creating new knowledge, improving education, and increasing the quality of our
lives.
ï” Its added also that science is an essential element in daily life, basic knowledge of
science is mandatory for everyone as it makes life easier and open our mind in
many ways. As science is completely based on facts and experiments so, it doesn't
change with time, basics always remain same.
4. ï” Science is valued by society because the application of scientific knowledge helps people and
industry to satisfy many basic human needs and improve living standards. In health, finding a
cure for cancer and a clean form of energy are just two topical examples. Particularly in
education could become the most important application of science.
ï” Its is very useful to the human society because of the scientific knowledge that allows people to
develop new technologies, solve practical problems, and make informed decisions â both
individually and collectively. Because its products are so useful, the process of science is
intertwined with those applications: New scientific knowledge may lead to new applications.
5. What is Technology?
The definition of technology is science or knowledge put into practical use to
solve problems or invent useful tools. The use of scientific knowledge to solve
practical problems, especially in industry and commerce.
Made nearly two million years ago, stone tools such as this are the first known
technological invention. This chopping tool and others like it are the oldest
objects in the British Museum. It comes from an early human campsite in the
bottom layer of deposits in Olduvai Gorge, Tanzania
6. ï” Technology affects the way individuals communicate, learn, and think. It helps society and
determines how people interact with each other on a daily basis. Technology plays an important
role in society today. It has positive and negative effects on the world and it impacts daily lives
ï” W.F Ogburn says technology changes society by changing our environments to which we in turn
adapt. This change is usually in the material environment and the adjustment that we make
with these changes often modifies customs and social institutions.
ï” Factors such as technological advancements may certainly trigger social change, but one must
take into account all of the other factors at play, including current societal conditions, the
history of the society, existing cultural norms, existing infrastructure, and much more
7. Categories of technology
ï” These values are threatened differently by advancements in each of four
distinct categories of information technology: sensing, storage, transfer, and
processing.
ï” It is possible to split technology into three main fields, namely science, or
theoretical, technology, physical technology and information technology. This
involves all sciences and is all about the processes underlying and leading to
all other forms of technology.
8. The 6 Areas of Technology
ï” PowerEnergy Technology.
ï” Bio-Related Technology.
ï” Construction Technology.
ï” Manufacturing Technology.
ï” Communication Technology

9. What is society?
The term society refers to a large group of people sharing their own culture and institutions. A
society is a network of relationships between people.

ï” Hunting and gathering societies.
ï” Pastoral societies.
ï” Horticultural societies.
