The complex regional pain syndrome is a pain which is uncommon and relates to chronic pain that pertains to pain in leg or arm. The pain
syndrome occurs usually post an injury or a surgery or a heart attack or a stroke.
The treatment becomes most effective when it starts early. The symptoms of chronic regional pain syndrome includes continuous
burning or throbbing pain in arms, legs, hands or feet, sensitivity to cold and touch, swelling in the pain area and changes in the skin
temperature.
A change in skin color from white to mottled red or blue with changes in skin texture are some more symptoms. Hair and nail growth
changes along with joint stiffness, swelling and damage can lead to the pain. Also muscle spasms and decreased ability to move the
affected body part are likely to give chances of developing a pain syndrome.
However it should be understood that symptoms can change with time and shall vary from person to person. Before the problem gets
developed completely there are some symptoms that may provide indications. These symptoms include hypersensitivity, pain, swelling,
redness and changes in temperature.
With time the affected limb may become cold and pale with development in skin and nail changes. Once these problems occur there is
likely a chance that the conditions become irreversible.
There is also a chance that the syndrome may occasionally spread from the source to other places. Through stress the pain can be made
to go worse.
There are some people in which it is seems that the symptoms can go away on its own while in some symptoms persist for weeks,
months and years.
Often when pain occurs, people are confused with when to start the treatment. But it is to be noted that when one experiences constant
and severe pain he or she should seek doctor’s advice.
The pain has a neuropathy treatment and is of two types.
Type 1 is known as reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome that occurs post an injury or any illness. The said injury or illness is never said
to damage the nerves in the affected limbs. It is also seen that 90 per cent of the cases have type 1 syndrome.
Type 2 is referred as causalgia and occurs post a distinct nerve injury.
Once you visit any doctor it is imperative for you to refer to the complications. If the problem is not diagnosed early then the disease
provides more disabling symptoms and signs. This may ultimately lead to tissue wasting which is also referred as atrophy. Atrophy refers
to a condition where in if the arm and leg movement is avoided or the limb movement is troubled then the skin, bones and muscles may
deteriorate with time. Muscle tightening refers to the procedure of contracture where in the muscles are tightened. Ultimately this may lead
to the condition in patients where the hand, finger and foot with toes are contracted to a fixed position.
Whichever type be, it is imperative for all patients to get the treatment as early as possible before the problem becomes severe.
