LIFE-ALTERING opportunities
“Being mentored by the Office of Student Life and Leadership Development was the best decision I’ve
ever made. Their programs helped me develop leadership and other vital skills, which opened all kinds
of opportunities at MCC and beyond.
While working toward my A.A. degree in Business Administration, I got involved in some great on-campus
activities, and my leadership skills helped me gain executive positions in several: Vice President/Phi Theta
Kappa Honors Society; Vice President/Holocaust, Genocide and Human Rights Project; Committee Chair/
Water for Sudan. I was also named to the All-USA Community College Academic Team.
Those accomplishments helped me win the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence and land a
great internship which will give me invaluable experience for pursuing my Bachelor of Arts in Marketing
at RIT.
I could NEVER have achieved any of this without the guidance of the Office of Student Life and
Leadership Development. I really hope you get involved like I did – because it will change your life!”
E-X-T-R-E-M-E EDUCATION beyond the classroom
MCC’s vibrant campus community has incredible co-curricular opportunities to compliment your
academic learning. There are more than 60 clubs and organizations that support interests of all
kinds – cultural, social, professional, creative, recreational and political.
Getting involved in on-campus activities isn’t only enjoyable, it can also give you huge advantages
in the job market and when applying to other colleges to continue your education. Employers are
looking for well-rounded people who can communicate effectively, interact on teams, and understand
different points of view. Those are the kind of skills active involvement teaches. Plus, it helps amp up
your self-esteem and motivates you toward greater success in your career!
“First Year Experience”
	 the ideal way to
CONNECT, ENGAGE, ENJOY!
You’ll gain an advantage and be ready to
start your college experience on the right foot.
With access to Peer Mentors and workshops with
other first year students, you’ll learn how to
use the many on-campus services that
will lead to your success!
You’ll also have opportunities to make
new friends and build relationships with
faculty and staff, which will benefit you
long after you leave MCC.
Our campus is alive with exciting
activities, clubs, organizations, cultural and
sports events. The best way for you to
be successful and enjoy your time at MCC
is to get involved.
I strongly recommend
the FYE program to all
new students. It’s an
awesome way to connect
and meet people.
- Kaylie Potter
The FYE program gave
me the confidence to
search out more
opportunities on campus.
- Catrina Foster
LEADERSHIP SKILLS that will last a lifetime!
While not everyone is a‘born leader,’everyone can cultivate leadership skills. Our Leadership Education
And Development (LEAD) Program helps you explore and enhance your leadership abilities. By working
with other students, faculty, staff and community leaders, you’ll learn how to maximize your potential.
If you want to kick it up a notch, enroll in the LEAD Program. You’ll gain invaluable knowledge and real-
world experience that will benefit you in your studies at MCC and beyond, as well as in the job market.
Leadership is a sense of being.
It’s the ability to engage
others to complete a task
effectively. Whether leading your
company to a successful year
or getting your kids to make
their beds, effective leadership
is essential in life.
- Michele Yignari
Leadership is an action,
not a position. It involves
so much more than standing
in front of a crowd and
giving a speech.
- Michael C. Gray, II
The Office of Student Life and Leadership Development is committed to student success.
We provide extended learning environments through programs, services and personal
interactions. We guide students in their holistic journey to develop and enhance leadership
and interpersonal skills. Students are empowered to become global citizens and active
